50 Cent reflected on the 20th anniversary of his iconic debut studio album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, on Instagram, Monday. 50 dropped the album on February 6, 2003, launching him into mainstream stardom. Get Rich or Die Tryin’ produced hits such as “In da Club,” “21 Questions,” “P.I.M.P.,” and more. The legendary New York rapper says that the legacy of the project can’t be forgotten.
“They can try not to remember because I made it uncomfortable but they can’t re write history,” 50 captioned Monday’s post. “20th year anniversary Get Rich Or Die Tryin. Boom.”
In addition to G-Unit members Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, the album also contains guest appearances from Eminem, Young Buck, and Nate Dogg. It debuted and peaked at number one on the Billboard 200, while selling over 872,000 copies in its first week. It ended as the best-selling album of 2003 in the US, and was up for Best Rap Album at the 46th Grammy Awards. Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is frequently ranked as one of the best albums of the 2000s.
Plenty of fans of 50’s reflected on their love for the iconic album in the comments section of his post. One user wrote: “Fucking classic! The 20th anniversary of Get Rich or Die Tryin’ comes following 50’s announcement that he’s working on new music. “Im gonna remind people I’m nice this year,” he wrote in a social media post, last month. “New Music New Tv New movie let’s go!” He’s also working on a TV adaptation of Eminem’s 8 Mile film as well as three new spinoff series for BMF.
