Westside Gunn is finally prepared to release his first solo album on Shady Records. The Griselda mastermind announced his Who Made The Sunshine LP is scheduled to drop on August 28 and promoted it as the finest work of his career.
“Everything I’ve done thus far has led up to this moment,” he wrote on Instagram. “when I said FLYGOD was a classic ppl didn’t see it at that moment, then I dropped Supreme Blientele and made ppl to start believing, then I dropped PRAY FOR PARIS and I knew I had my formula together and I was ready for my first major release album and now it’s officially here ‘WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE’ every project has been painted diff and with purpose, I know soon I’ll be done rapping but I have to give u WSG on a diff level this project I swear is my best work to date and I know it’s great bc it took me a week to make and not 2 days lol…”

Westside and his brother Conway The Machine signed with Shady Records in 2017. The two and fellow Griselda member Benny The Butcher dropped a group album titled WWCD on the label in 2019, but all of their solo efforts from the past three years have been independently released.
Who Made The Sunshine will be Westside’s third project of 2020. He dropped the critically acclaimed Pray For Paris LP, which was named one of the best albums of the year so far by HipHopDX, in April and followed it up with his Flygod Is An Awesome God 2 mixtape in July.
In addition to music, Westside and the Griselda crew are venturing into the world of movies. Their first film Conflicted features Benny as its star and executive producer with AK.Reed Films serving as the director. Although a release date hasn’t been announced for the flick, WSG did share a trailer to give fans a sneak peek of what to expect.
Westside previously claimed he’ll be stepping away from rap after 2020, but he hasn’t confirmed if Who Made The Sunshine will be his final release of the year. While a collaborative project with Madlib was also in the works, he told Revolt the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their plans in April.
