Kanye West is answering for his tweets. Well, some of them.
On Saturday (July 25), the 43-year-old offered an apology to wife Kim Kardashian after Kanye insinuated that he asked Kim to get an abortion when she became pregnant with their daughter, North during his first “campaign rally” in South Carolina on July 19.
“I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter,” Ye tweeted. “I did not cover her like she has covered http://me.To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me.”
Kanye’s tweet-spree earlier this week raised concern for his well-being. The rapper not only shared he believes his mother-in-law Kris Jenner is a white supremacist but also insinuated Kardashian slept with Meek Mill, an accusation Meek (sort of) denied.
Ye also claimed he’d been considering divorcing the reality television star, prompting rumors Kardashian had been looking for a divorce herself.
Kardashian released a statement on Wednesday (July 22) and provided a glimpse into what it was like living with someone who suffers from a bipolar disorder.
“As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder,” she began. “Anyone who has this or has a love on in their life who does, know how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand. I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconception about mental health.”
Kardashian noted she has no control over what Kanye may say or do and explained the only person who can seek help is the person in the midst of an episode.
“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she continued. “People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”
She hopes the public and media gives her family and Kanye “compassion and empathy” as her family works through this latest episode.
