RMR Connects With Westside Gunn For “Welfare”

RMR secures the Griselda co-sign with Westside Gunn-assisted “Welfare” off his debut EP.

Considering that RMR’s first impression consisted of a spirited reimagining of a Rascal Flatts song, a track that won hearts through its juxtaposition of country-inspired melodies and trap visual imagery, the fact his debut EP opens with a Griselda feature is actually rather impressive. And yet, these are the times. Enter Drug Dealing Is A Lost Art, the brand new debut project from RMR, which finds him connecting with Westside Gunn on “Welfare.”

Off the bat, it’s clear that RMR’s dedication to his country influences has not yet faded. The piano-driven instrumental immediately captures an emotional tone, though it is admittedly a little offset by Gun’s signature ad-libs. And yet the vibe remains, with Westside proving adaptable as he segues into a verse from RMR. “Had to go and get it, my mama stuck on welfare,” he sings, laying his cards on the table. “Need that new Mercedes, I need a bitch like Offset.” You know what he means.

Be sure to check out the full EP here, and sound off. Though some may maintain that RMR got his start as a gimmick, it’s clear he’s bringing something original to the table, with plenty of talent at that. Whether he can continue to manifest that into solid music is another question altogether, but isn’t the fun always in the journey?
