Elijah Blake delivers a stripped-down version of his 2016 single, “Hanging Tree.”

Elijah Blake has revisited his 2016 single for an acoustic version with some assistance from Donald Lawrence & Co. Per Genius, “Hanging Fruit” was a single off of SANKOFA.org presents 17 that was released in support of racial and social justices causes around America. Though it was four years ago, it remains just as relevant today in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the protests gong on across the country.

“You guys dug this song up and it’s finally getting a chance to heal as I intended when I originally wrote it,” he wrote on an Instagram post.” Seeing you all use it while marching, or reciting the words in chants or even passing it along via group chat has been bitter sweet but so necessary and necessary in this fight for change!”
