Luniz’ “I Got 5 On It” Kept “The La La” Blowing On The West Coast

“I Got 5 On It” is this week’s #TBT.

This past Christmas, Luniz “I Got 5 On It” was introduced to a whole new generation of kids as a terrifying horror song rather than the weed smoking anthem many of us know it as. Jordan Peele included a haunting version of the track in the trailer for his upcoming film, Us. For this week’s #TBT, we decided to cap off the year with the Bay Area classic. For over two decades, smokers across the world have included “I Got 5 On It” on their playlists. Let’s be real though, it’s also just a dope track that everyone could vibe out to at most functions and Peele clearly proved that with the spin of the song. While speaking to EW, he explained that the song fit perfectly since the movie takes place in Northern California. However, he explained that the song always had a haunting element that reminded him of the Nightmare On Elm Street soundtrack which is why it made even more sense for him to include it.Quotable Lyrics
Hoochies can hit, but they know they got to pitch in
Then I roll a joint that’s longer than your extension
‘Cause I’ll be damned if you get high off me for free
Hell no, you better bring your own spliff, chief
