T.I. Goes In On Lizzo Fat-Phobic Haters: ’They Feel Negatively About Themselves’

T.I. is coming to Lizzo’s defense after the Grammy Award winner had a tearful moment on Instagram Live about all the hate she’s received since dropping “Rumors” with Cardi B.

On Sunday (August 22), the Hustle Gang boss headed to Instagram Live with a message for Lizzo, who has been a huge advocate for body positivity long before exploding onto the scene in 2019 with Cuz I Love You.

“My message to Lizzo,” he begins. “I don’t know Lizzo personally. Listen, sweetheart, you are beautiful, you are talented, you are good enough for all the great things the world has to offer, don’t wait on nobody out there in the public to validate that.

“Their perception of you has more to do with them than it does with you. All these people who out here who have negative things to say it’s because they feel negatively about themselves.”

Lizzo took her frustrations to Instagram on August 15, saying in part, “Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back. It’s like it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world, you’re still going to have people who have something mean to say about you.

“And for the most part it doesn’t hurt my feelings; I don’t care. I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower. I’m more sensitive and it gets to me.”

She added, “People saying shit about me that just doesn’t even make sense. It’s fat-phobic, and it’s racist and it’s hurtful. If you don’t like my music, cool. If you don’t like ‘Rumors’ the song, cool. But a lot of people don’t like me because of the way I look.”

The video prompted Facebook to take action and scrub several of the comments from her posts.

Lizzo has often been the target of people’s criticisms, but she usually has a rebuttal ready for her haters. In June 2020, she had a message for all those who continued to body shame her.

“I have been working out consistently for the last five years and it may come as a surprise to some of y’all that I’m not working out to have your ideal body type,” she explained via TikTok. “I’m working out to have my ideal body type and you know what type that is? None of your fucking business ’cause I am beautiful. I am strong. I do my job and I stay on my job.

“So next time you wanna come to somebody and judge them whether they drink kale smoothies or eat McDonald’s or work out or not work out, how about you look at your own fucking self and worry about your own god damn body because health is not just determined on what you look like on the outside, health is also what happens on the inside. And a lot of y’all need to do a fucking cleanse for your insides. Namaste. Have a great day.”

As for “Rumors” collaborator Cardi B, she also came to her aid and tweeted, “When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”
