YO GOTTI’S ‘LEBRON JAMES’ & OTHER RAP SONGS NAMED AFTER NBA PLAYERS

With the bubble out of the picture for the foreseeable future, this may not be the only start to the 2021 NBA season. If Pfizer puts up some MVP numbers, maybe we can start hitting the arenas again, but until then, HipHopDX is continuing with our NBA-inspired playlist.

We’re kicking this one off with the recent winner of his fourth NBA championship, LeBron James.

As one of the seasoned veterans in the game, Yo Gotti channels his inner King James, dispelling rookies and laughing at any unnecessary hate in this banger from his 2013 album I Am.

Trapboy Freddy f. Young Dolph – “Gary Payton”

Post-retirement, “The Glove” has parlayed his NBA fame into the cannibis industry and it sounds like the balling hasn’t stopped as Dolph and Trapboy Freddy shout out his produce in their recent single.

Sheck Wes – “Mo Bamba”

He may not have gotten drafted this year (he actually entered his name in the lottery), but Sheck Wes is likely still getting NBA-sized checks from his breakout hit named after his good friend, 2019 actual NBA draft pick and current Orlando Magic member, Mo Bamba.

A$AP Ferg f. Tyga – “Dennis Rodman”

A$AP Ferg and Tyga may be overestimating “The Worm’s” offensive versatility but they were definitely blessed the rebound king’s approval as he appeared in the video.

Migos f. Gucci Mane – “Dennis Rodman”

Migos & GUWOP went a different direction in their salute to five-time NBA champ, Dennis Rodman, citing his frequent hair color changes as similar to that of some of their favorite lady friends.

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib f. Anderson .Paak – “Giannis”

The superrich Greek Freak may have the best song named after him on this list thanks to the Grammy-nominated Freddie Gibbs and the incomparable Anderson .Paak.

Peezy f. Icewear Vezzo & Baby Money- “Chris Bosh”

Peezy is mopping any and all haters as he lays claim to his CB4-level of balling.

HitmanFloyd f. Stunna 4 Vegas – “Steph Curry”

Sharpshooter Steph Curry gets an encore shout out but it’s for a different type of point-blank aiming.

Roc Marciano – “Tom Chambers”

In his day, Tom Chambers was not someone defenders wanted to take a charge from, and like the Phoenix Suns and Seattle Supersonics All-Star, opponents better get out of the way when Roc Marciano comes through.

Meek Mill – “Derrick Rose”

For those too young to remember Derrick Rose as a rookie, look up his early highlights on YouTube and it will become clear just how hard Meek Mill balls.

Waka Flocka Flame – “Bill Russell”

Waka Flocka Flame pays homage to the Celtics great with his balling analogy. He also sites his basic dribble and “no crossover” mentality. Do keep in mind that ball handles really didn’t get nice nice until the 90s.

Rod Da God – “Dwyane Wade”

Like the retired Miami Heat human highlight reel, Rod Da God is never afraid to shoot his shot.

Gasoline Julio – “Nate Robinson”

The important thing to remember is that this song was recorded before any recent Nate Robinson-involved events. Let’s just remember one of the league’s great little men on the court for this one.

Fishscale Wooly f. Blaxx1hunnid – “Paul Gasol”

Nevermind the spelling. Everyone always called Kobe Bryant’s favorite teammate “Paul” anyway. The versatile big man left his mark and Fishscale Wooly paid tribute to the two-time NBA champ from Spain.

RiFF RAFF – “Larry Bird”

>RiFF RAFF seemed to like to name his songs after NBA players. Loose tie together for this one, but Larry Bird was great so this one should be synced to a YouTube video of the Celtics legend’s career highlights.

Huncho Brezzo – “Jimmy Butler”

Huncho Brezzo picked the underdog hero for his track about balling at a professional level.

Bankroll Bigg – “Ron Artest”

Artest is probably best remembered for “The Malice At The Palace,” but never forget he was one of the great two-way players in the game. Pacers fan, Bankroll Bigg shows his appreciation for the eccentric All-Star.
