Lil Wayne Put In Serious Work On “Glory”

2015 Young Money Entertainment

2015 Young Money Entertainment

Following the re-release of “Free Weezy Album,” revisit one of Lil Wayne’s hardest tracks in “Glory.”

Yesterday, Lil Wayne fans were granted a major quality of life change, with the rapper finally uploading his Free Weezy Album onto Spotify, Apple Music, and more — for some context, the project was originally released as a TIDAL exclusive in 2015. And while the album isn’t exactly new per se, FWA does feel worth of some renewed attention, especially given the quality found throughout. Off the bat, Wayne opens the project by swinging for the fences with “Glory,” a track that recently got a new video in honor of the re-release.

Lyrically, “Glory” is exactly the sort of showing that solidifies Wayne as one of the greatest rappers of all time, a three verse onslaught of clever bars filled with wordplay and punchlines. “Unload the Glock profusely when sortin’ out confusion,” he spits. “Your motor mouth keep vroomin’, I’m goin’ Tony Stewart / I’m on the fluid, I’m ruined, I’m cold as Boston Bruins.” Bonus points for a hockey reference, a rarity in the rap game. In case it’s been a while since you last spent time with Free Weezy, be sure to seize the day and adjust your playlist accordingly.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Pardon my mental, I’m higher than Continental
Went from flyin’ cockroaches to flyin’ without credentials
That’s private, tell the pilot, “Be quiet, we need our privacy”
Throw you off this bitch if you wired, justifiably

Pop Smoke Flips 50 Cent’s “Many Men” On “Got It On Me”

2020 Republic Records

2020 Republic Records

Pop Smoke’s flip on 50 Cent’s “Many Men,” the hard-hitting “Got It On Me,” has landed in full.

Long before Pop Smoke‘s posthumous album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon arrived in full, fans were steadily keeping watch for the rapper’s flip on 50 Cent‘s “Many Men.” You may recall that the viral snippet surfaced back in February, prompting Fif himself to chime in with his take. “Told you n***s to make sure nothing happens to him,” he tweeted. “What the fuck man. he was on his way.” Now, under 50’s watchful eye as executive producer, Pop Smoke‘s long-awaited “Many Men” flip has landed, an intimidating banger titled “Got It On Me.”

Instrumentally, Young Devante opts for a dark vibe, complete with eerie choir chants and gothic church bells. The aura of death surrounds it, and Pop Smoke’s baritone belts out Fif’s iconic chorus with purpose. “Is you ridin’ or you hidin, If you slidin’, then you owe me,” he spits. “Run up, catch cold feet, n***as act tough then call police.” Check it out now, and be sure to show some love to Pop Smoke by checking out his brand new album right here. Is this the hardest track on the project?

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Is you ridin’ or you hidin, If you slidin’, then you owe me
Run up, catch cold feet, n***as act tough then call police
I don’t make friends, yeah I make bands
Want some Ray-Bans ’cause I’m an OG

Westside Gunn Connects With Benny The Butcher & Boldy James For “Buffs Vs Wires”

2020 Griselda Records

2020 Griselda Records

Westside Gunn goes back to basics with Boldy James and Benny The Butcher on “Buffs Vs Wires.”

Westside Gunn has been a prolific worker since he first emerged onto the scene, and he has yet to shake that mentality — even as Griselda Records reaches new heights. Following the release of Pray For Paris, his biggest and arguably best album yet, Gunn has kept his nose to the grindstone with another drop, this time revisiting a fan favorite with Flygod Is An Awesome God 2

As the album feels like a callback to his formative years, at least sonically speaking, it may be alienating to those who prefer the more refined griminess explored on his last drop. Yet there’s something pure about hearing Gunn trade bars with Benny The Butcher (who absolutely snaps on this one) and Boldy James, who closes the track with some stellar words of his own. As per usual, Gunn is typically outlandish, alternating lavish gangsta rap bars with off-kilter singing — endearing for fans and bizarre for skeptics. Should you fall into the latter category, don’t expect “Buffs Vs Wires” to convert you. But should you occupy the former, there’s plenty to enjoy on this one.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Track and field, running packs, I’m still subtracting real numbers
I took a loss and just had to build from it, y’all broke the code
Threw dirt on gang when y’all spoke to Hov, that was reckless
That’s expected, VS cuts on my wrist big enough to catch infections
This heckler on me protect the homies, Boldy and West
I treated my .40 just like my only connect

Gucci Mane & Young Thug Open The Door To “Gucci Land”

2020 Atlantic Records

2020 Atlantic Records

Gucci Mane and Young Thug open the doors to “Gucci Land,” cutting the red-tape with matching smiles.

We’ve been to “Nudy Land,” and had a grand old time — but now the doors to “Gucci Land” have been opened, and we’ve got Guwop and Young Thug handing out tickets. Today marks the arrival of Gucci Mane‘s solo slash compilation album So Icy Summer, which features an abundance of bangers and collaborations with Atlanta heavyweights. In fact, Young Thug hangs around on three tracks, a welcome addition to any party — especially when he gets on his rap tip.

On “Gucci Land,” both parties take to the electrifying instrumental with swagger, with Guwop settings things off with a dexterous flow; though he still busts out the methodical delivery from time to time, it’s hard to deny that he’s been more experimental in these recent years — though not at the expense of his hard-hitting bars. “Red carpet shawty with a bitch like a Barbie and a tailor-made suit from Alessandro,” he spits. “I did a robbery, a n***a tried to buck on the pistol, I reversed it and hit him with the handle.” Next up is Thugger, who matches Gucci’s intensity with a slick verse of his own — check it out for yourself right here, right now.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Stadiums, I don’t do arenas no more
Fuck handcuffs, I don’t wanna see ’em no more
Italian stallion, Rocky Balboa
Plug with the cord tryna sell a motherload
Whip it off the stove, gotta use another bowl
Swerve past a hater like a hole in the road
