Kanye West Inches Out Kendrick Lamar & Frank Ocean For Album Of The Decade
Volume 0%

A music industry insider may have stumbled upon some #K5 details.

Kendrick Lamar‘s next album must be around the corner. You could feel it in the air, or you could just guess based on the amount of time that Kenny has spent away from the spotlight. Sources have confirmed that he has been hard at work in the studio, but other than that, the TDE team does an impressive job of keeping details under wraps. We haven’t really received information about who Kendrick is working with, which musical direction he’s going in or around when we could expect his new project to drop. However, we may have just gotten a tip about #K5.

On Saturday (Jan. 11), former Billboard editorial director and current columnist for the publication, Bill Werde, tweeted some stuff he heard from a little birdie: “Did anyone not named Beyonce release better, more meaningful back-to-back albums last decade than Kendrick Lamar? Are you interested to know that I hear from several friends that recording on the new album may finally be done? And that he’s pulling in more rock sounds this time?”

Given Werde’s profession, it’s possible that he has some reliable sources in the music industry. He also pointed out that just because K-Dot is rumoured to have completed the recording stage for the album, doesn’t necessarily mean the album itself is finished and ready for release. “Also, just to be clear, just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished — albums go back to the studio all the time after this point, and for a million different reasons.”

Bill Werde@bwerde

A lot of huge albums expected in 2020. I’ll be surprised if there’s one I listen to more closely the first time than this one.

Martin Lawrence & Will Smith Are Strapped With Machine Guns On “Bad Boys 3” Set
Volume 0%

Will still got it.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have embarked on their Bad Boys For Life press run, meaning that we’ll have several hilarious interviews from the duo over the next week. Smith and Lawrence stopped by Sway’s Universe to promote the new flick, but the host switched things up on The Fresh Prince. Smith was expecting to talk Bad Boys For Life, but Sway slyly brought up his favorite song that Will ever made, “Brand New Funk.”  The 1988 single was a collaboration with DJ Jazzy Jeff and was featured on the multi-platinum album He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper.

First, Sway starts rapping the single himself before Smith hops in and finishes the lyrics. Then, during the commercial break, Smith ends up lip-synching along to the first verse as the track plays in the background. You can see his energy going up as he continues, and it transforms into Smith rapping the entire second verse in his full Fresh Prince persona. Smith looks like he’s channeling the energy of his teenage self as he’s really enjoying the moment. Hopefully, the good moments last for him. Bad Boys For Life is set to hit theaters on January 17. Are you excited about the threequel?

Usher, Alicia Keys, John Legend, H.E.R. To Honor Prince With Grammy Special
Volume 0%

The Grammys will be honoring The Purple One, Prince himself, with an exclusive star-studded tribute concert.

A mere man standing at 5’3 with the ability to play a total of twenty-seven instruments was able to transform himself into a deity throughout the course of his four-decade-long music career. Prince was a perfectionist who elevated others around him and only expected the best out of his counterparts and collaborators. At the tender age of just 57-years-old, Prince Rogers Nelson was pronounced dead at his Paisley Park estate in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since his passing, the music realm, award ceremonies, and even NBA sideline seats lack the violet aura that Prince radiated while he was in attendance.

Now, the Recording Academy is paying their respects to the god of vibrations with a star-studded tribute concert just two days after the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. The event entitled the “Let’s Go Crazy: The GRAMMY® Salute to Prince” concert will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The cast honoring the likes of Joey CoCo will be the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire, CommonUsher, the Foo Fighters, H.E.R., Beck, Alicia KeysJohn Legend, Mavis Staples, St. Vincent, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Juanes, Gary Clark Jr., and Susanna Hoffs.

Some of Prince’s closest friends, family, and collaborators will be attendance honoring the 38-time Grammy-nominated and seven-time Grammy-winning phenom including, Shelia E. The Revolution Band, Morris Day And The Time, and more.

While “Let’s Go Crazy: The GRAMMY® Salute to Prince” will take place live later this month, the special tribute concert will air on CBS within the month of April. Tickets for the live event are currently available for purchase, here.

Future & Drake Are Back With New Collaboration Preview
Volume 0%

2020 is continuing to boast a strong start.

Following a strong start to the year last week, our weekly “FIRE EMOJI” playlist is back with another update filled with the hottest releases from the last seven days.

To kick things off, Drake and Future reunited for a new banger titled “Life is Good,” a self-evident truth for all of us, now that we’ve got this track to vibe to. Drake starts the track off with smooth verse before a beat switch that introduces an expectedly hard verse from Future. All and all, the track brings fans back to the What A Time To Be Alive days.

Also to be found is a new posthumous release from Mac Miller, “Good News.” The lo-fi, sleepy vibe is one that’ll leave fans with waterworks before the full release of Miller’s upcoming Circles, which releases next week. This single is accompanied by a somber music video with trippy visuals and two quick clips of Miller in the studio.

Also included are new tracks from Mick JenkinsLil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion and more. Check out the full playlist below.
