According to CNN, the statue was taken down because of the public’s reaction to new sexual abuse allegations. The statue was installed in 2014 inside of the soccer museum, but it was no longer being displayed this week. The decision to remove MJ’s statue from this specific museum shouldn’t be too big of a hot topic, simply because Jackson was not a professional soccer player. However, his reach was so vast that he could be placed in a soccer museum without people thinking twice about it.
A spokesperson for the museum issued a statement, reading, “As part of our ongoing plans to better represent the stories we want to tell, we have made a decision to remove the Michael Jackson statue from display.” Do you think organizations will continue to boycott Michael Jackson because of the new documentary?
