Kendrick Lamar & SZA Refuse To Perform “All The Stars” At Oscars

The “Best Original Song” nominees don’t want any part of the Academy’s shenanigans.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA are holding firm in their refusal to perform at the Oscars, despite the Academy’s most enticing efforts. The Academy wants the TDE artists to perform their Oscar-nominated song “All The Stars” from the Kendrick-curated Black Panther soundtrack. And short of creating a minor snafu out of resentment, the committee will not seek a replacement Kendrick or SZA to follow through with the booking as scheduled.

As is generally the custom, the other nominated artists have consented to perform their songs on live television. They include Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, Jennifer Hudson for “I’ll Fight” fromRBG, Bette Midler and Marc Shaiman for “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, and lastly, Gillian Welch and David Rowlings for “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

In addition to the participation of all consenting “Best Original Song” nominees, a song and dance attributed to Queen and the “Freddy Mercury” biopic was also commissioned for the live broadcast.

As Variety reported late last month, the Oscar committee was forced to be more inclusive with the performing acts on the live telecast, after a host of big names voiced their displeasure with the existing “process,” which is indubitably a big part of the reason SZA and Kendrick Lamar pulled out, even though “All Stars” was part of the original mock-up.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Sues HBO For Upwards Of $100 Million

Michael Jackson’s estate claims the cable network is defying an NDA they signed in 1992.

It’s no secret Michael Jackson’s estate has been up in arms ever since the Leaving Neverland hype starting picking up. After all, HBO has a longstanding relationship with Michael Jackson dating back to the airing of Michael Jackson Live in Concert in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour in 1992. Jackson’s estate claims a non-disclosure agreement when the King of Pop signed off on the concert footage.

According to the deposition, the NDA called for HBO to withhold from any “foul talk” against Michael Jackson for an indiscriminate amount of time. “HBO shall not make any disparaging remarks concerning Performer or any of his representatives, agents, or business practices or do any act that may harm or disparage or cause to lower in esteem the reputation or public image of..” reads the disclaimer which surfaced in court this afternoon.

The lawsuit could see HBO lose up to $100 million in damages if proven liable on all counts. As you likely already know, Leaving Neverland is centered on the allegations of two of MJ’s known accusers: James Safechuck and Wade Robson, who are now claiming that Jackson molested them when they were children. The lawsuit also claims that Safechuck and Robson hold absolutely no credibility given the fact they both took an oath absolving the King of Pop of any molestation.

R. Kelly is dealt another blow as he wards off public opinion.

TMZ has learned that two new accusers have stepped forward against R. Kelly. The media outlet was also on hand when the two women joined forces to make their accusations official in a press conference this morning at 11 am. The proceedings have been recorded are available to those who’d like to put a face to the women who wish to remain anonymous until further notice. The two women were flanked by attorney Gloria Allred when the conference kicked off in New York City. Allred moderated a linear discussion where the alleged victims recounted their participation in an after party put on the disgraced singer. As the story goes, both women were invited to the said party after Kelly spotted them in the crowd at one of his infamous “front row” concerts.

In other R. Kelly-related news, a grand jury has been assembled to investigate a sex tape which allegedly shows the singer engaging in sexual acts with what is believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The damning evidence was presented to Cook County’s State Attorney’s Office by attorney Michael Avenatti. It’s still unclear whether the new accusers are in any way involved with Avenatti’s prosecution efforts in Chicago.

R. Kelly’s Lawyer Compares Him To Beethoven & John Lennon

R. Kelly’s attorney is unhappy that the singer has to move out of his studio.

Who else is surprised that Chicago Police arrested Jussie Smollett for orchestrating his own attack before R. Kelly got sent to jail. Yesterday, it was reported that R. Kelly will be moving out of his Chicago music studio, which he previously used to craft a good number of his hit records. He is leaving on his own will after a curfew was imposed by the judge, not allowing Kelly to be in the building after 9:00 PM. He had previously violated building restrictions that clearly state that the space is not to be used as a residential building. In a statement made yesterday, the singer’s attorney announced that his client would be moving out, comparing him to some of the most famous inventors and artists along the way.

“Thru the years, history has admired creativity,” wrote Steve Greenberg. “Beethoven worked and wrote during the night. So did Freud, Tolstoy, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Edison, Elon Musk, and Churchill, amongst thousands of others.” Greenberg went on to note that John Lennon used to spend 24 hours a day in bed while recording. One thing that’s missing from his remarks: those people have not been accused of sexually assaulting countless minors.

The message is closed with a note that R. Kelly will continue to work on his upcoming album elsewhere. What do you think of his statement?
