BEVERLY HILLS, CA – West Coast rapper C-Tru has enlisted the one and only Snoop Dogg for his new “California Party” video featuring Lysee J.

Shot in Beverly Hills, the visual starts off with C-Tru putting on a set of VR googles, which catapults him to Snoop’s mansion.

The track, which was produced by Jun Lee, is an ode to the West Coast’s unique culture, diversity and carefree spirit of California living. The video shoot occurred two houses down from famed television and radio host Larry King, who crashed the set after the police arrived following noise violation complaints.

In true Snoop fashion, he just lit up another extra large blunt and laughed.

Allegations of R. Kelly’s sexual abuse continue to surface. TMZ reports a woman is suing the controversial singer for sexual battery, false imprisonment and failure to disclose an STD.

Faith Rodgers, the alleged victim, says she dated Kelly for about one year after meeting him when she was 19 at a San Antonio concert. Following their initial meeting, Rodgers claims Kelly flew her to New York for a show. After the event, he reportedly “bombarded” her hotel room and engaged in “abusive sex” that involved oral and vaginal intercourse.

Now that the relationship has ended, Rodgers went into vivid detail about the alleged verbal and sexual abuse she suffered. She was allegedly locked in rooms, studios and cars for failing to sexually satisfy him. The lawsuit states that Kelly had a female assistant watching to make sure she never escaped.

Kelly was accused of knowingly infecting another woman with herpes in April. Over the past year, more and more allegations of Kelly’s sexual misconduct have been reported. He’s been accused of running a “sex cult” that holds women against their will and grooming a teenager to be his sex “pet.”

The myriad of reports about Kelly’s sexual abuse have resulted in him being removed from Spotify’s curated playlists and inspired the Lifetime Network to develop multiple projects about his alleged crimes.

Pusha T On New Album: “I Think It’s Flawless”

Take a look into the “King Push” group chat.

Pusha T has always been his own biggest fan. He declared 2013’s My Name Is My Name “hip-hop album of the year” upon release, and he seems to be similarly confident in its proper follow-up: King PushAs OnSmash points out, Def Jam A&R Steven Victor has given fans an exclusive look into his group chat, which includes Terrence Thornton, better known as Pusha T.

Lord Steven Victor@StevenVictor

Just know. Even if you know, remember. Just know. @PUSHA_T Album of the year any genre @theGRAMMYs

“My album is so gooooooood,” he says when asked for an update. “I’m scared to say it but I think it’s flawless.”

The album he’s referring to has gone through many changes. Shortly after My Name Is My Name was released, Push said that the project would be produced by a reunited Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo as the Neptunes. Since then, it’s become a Kanye-produced project — though according to Push, even in Ye’s hands, they’ve started from scratch multiple times. “I’m gonna go ahead and let y’all know,” he said last September. “I’ve done this album like three times, right. [Kanye] come in, he pick all the beats and shit. Then he hears the beats and he scraps them and says ‘I can do better.’ He’s done that shit like three times.”

Pusha T released King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude, which was billed as a warm-up project for King Push, in 2015.

The last we heard, Kanye announced that Pusha’s album will be released on May 25th. It will be followed by a solo Kanye project, a Kanye and Kid Cudi project, a Nas album, and a Teyana Taylor project, all overseen by Kanye.

Meek Mill, 50 Cent, & Fat Joe Praise Tekashi 6ix9ine & Casanova For Ending Beef

The old heads appreciate the unity among New York rappers.

While one of Tekashi 6ix9ine’s beefs continues to escalate, an other, more potentially violent, beef seems to have come to an end, as Tekashi and Casanova have finally set aside their differences and ended their feud. The two of them posted up together outside club LoveLust in New York, in a video posted on Tekashi’s Instagram. In the caption, Tekashi brags about keeping all his teeth, and how New York is about to be a problem now that the two of them are friends.

In a surprising show of support, some older rappers have weighed in on the situation, and have nothing but praise for the two young emcees. Meek Mill, who since his release from prison, has become a crusader for social progress. He went onto Instagram to congratulate the two of them for ending their feud, saying “Having a conversation is apart of being thorough never forget that! Kill all that us on us shit! #brooklyn.”

Some New York rappers also praised the two of them. Fat Joe said, “Love this,” and even 50 Cent, who is more than willing to star beefs of his own, enjoyed the sight of 6ix9ine and Casanova together. “The little homies good now,🤨l love this,” 50 wrote on Instagram. “Shit Yal was making it hot,LOL 😡get the strap”

It seems that Tekashi may finally be learning that beef isn’t as cool as he thinks it is. Though chances are we’ll be getting a new one from him by this time next week.

T.I. Isn’t Tripping Over His Recent Arrest, Still Waiting On An Apology

T.I. deserves his rights.

While T.I.‘s arrest last week was extremely brief, it did bring up some important issues concerning police and black people. When stories about black people having the cops called on them for doing absolutely nothing keep becoming more and more common, people have a right to be concerned. One person who isn’t concerned, however, is T.I. TMZcaught up with him as he was leaving the Reagan National Airport yesterday, and asked him if he felt he was being targeted by the man for his outspoken political views. As a response, T.I. answered with a simple shrug, unwilling to comment on whether or not he felt like a victim. In fact he didn’t seem too concerned about the whole affair, saying that even though the gated community where he lives has yet to apologize to him for the incident, he isn’t tripping about it either. Of course, T.I. had previously referred to his arrest as more of an “inconvenience” than anything else.

When asked why he didn’t try to use his fame as a rapper to make his way through, T.I. said it wasn’t about that.

“I’m a tax paying citizen and resident in that community,” said T.I. “I paid my homeowner’s association fees. I bought my house – well my wife bought the house – but you know what I’m saying. I shouldn’t have to be a celebrity to be considered. I have rights.”

It seems like the homeowners association better get on that apology soon.

Check out the video of T.I. below.

DJ Quik Back On Solo Grind With “World Girl” Single

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/3cHOQEly6oDdn0rbgBvnig

LOS ANGELES, CA – The one-and-only DJ Quik has kept his name bubbling these past few years working with Problem, in the midst of speaking his mind on social media.

And although it’s been a full five years since in last solo album in 2014’s The Midnight Life, the Compton rap pioneer is actively changing that with the release of “World Girl,” the first single from his forthcoming tenth studio album, due out later this summer via Quik’s Mad Science Recordings imprint.

The record employs a Quik-favored Middle Eastern tinge and features up-and-coming singer, Christian Ford.

While feature details surrounding the album are still emerging, Quik was recently spotted enjoying a studio session with Trippie Redd, who the legend proclaimed the youngster to be “doin’ it big.”

For the time being, DJ Quik’s “World Girl” can be streamed up above.

Tech N9ne Airs Out Woman On Instagram Who Tried To Billie Jean Him

KANSAS CITY, MO – A woman claiming Tech N9ne is her newborn baby’s father prompted the Strange Music, Inc. mastermind to take action on social media.

On Thursday (May 17), Tech revealed the woman slid into his girl’s DMs on Instagram and claimed the rapper was paying her to stay quiet about the child. But — as he notes in the caption — the kid is not his son, a reference to Michael Jackson’s 1982 iconic smash hit “Billie Jean.”

“Bitches say Alot of ill shit to my chick in her DM to try and darken our everlasting light but yesterday an unknown bitch sent a pic of a new born baby sayin I was PAYING her to keep it quiet and she was tired of hiding a baby boy that was supposed to be mine!” he wrote. “HAAAAA its a lot of things I’ve been in my past but NOT NARE NONE OF EM, was a sucka or a deadbeat!

“I got 3 kids bitch and they aint kids no mo! Demons don’t wanna see us shine but there’s no ONE, that can separate myself and @krizieluv but us 2! We Live for Love Light and Laughter! You evil doers should try and do the same or LEAVE US THE HELL ALONE! Peace! Lol #BUTTHEKIDISNOTMYSON Thank you MJ.”

On June 15, the Kansas City, Missouri native will unveil his collaboration with Boulevard Brewing called Bou Lou, which was inspired by his 2006 Everready (The Religion) cut “Caribou Lou.”

Tech was previously married to Lecoya LeJeune for 22 years. Although the couple reportedly separated in 2005, their divorce wasn’t finalized until last year. They have two grown children, so child support wasn’t part of the settlement but LeJune will receive roughly $5,555 a month for the next five years in alimony.

Take it from the King of Pop, “remember to always think twice.”

Andre 3000’s Bittersweet Return

What’s next for 3 Stacks following his musical left turn on Mother’s Day?

André 3000 is a renowned recluse. Infrequent appearances from the famed lyricist and one half of the duo Outkast are akin to sightings of the great white whale, the source of Captain Ahab’s “quenchless feud.” And much like the storied creature of old, 3 Stacks has taken on a certain mythical aura that has attracted unwavering onlookers clambering to catch a glimpse. Early Sunday morning, the enigmatic artist returned to the fold, letting loose two songs that can only be described as an emotional reckoning. With a freshly verified Instagram account, he introduced the new music in six posts, the first one being a vintage polaroid that features him as a child, grinning and clad in graduation attire. He promptly followed it up with screenshots of his final text message exchange with his mother before her passing, as well as a brief note on Mother’s Day: “I’m sure all the cards, dinners, flowers and last minute gifts are appreciated but I’ve learned the best gift a parent could get is to simply know their child is OK.” An inescapable ending detail, “Link in bio,” leads to a SoundCloud playlist complete with 22-minutes of internal exploration: the avant-garde “Look Ma No Hands” and the elegant piano ballad, “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents).”The transformational, 17-minute “Look Ma No Hands” is an instrumental offering on which English musician James Blake plays the keys, while André artfully meanders along on the bass clarinet, letting forth improvisational bursts in a series of dreamy jazz riffs. The imaginative dissonance of his chord progressions is deafening. It’s a floating stream of consciousness from which it is difficult to extract any discernible meaning other than raw, unhindered experimentation. Still, there is a sense of liberation to the track, which ebbs and flows without paying heed to the stereotypical boundaries of musical structure. It’s a freeing moment for the man who has spoken at great length on mending his psyche and accepting guilt. In an interview published in GQ in October, André pondered the recent “hole” that had engulfed his creativity and personal life. “I was still not dealing with my mom’s and my father’s deaths. And really, I don’t know if I have still.”André chooses to make peace with his past demons on “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents),” an ode to his late mother and father. His mother, Sharon Benjamin-Hodo, passed away on May 28, 2013, the day after André’s 38th birthday. His father, Lawrence Walker, died the following year. Instead of rapping, the specific musical discipline that he has unquestionably mastered, André employs singing as a means to reflect on the formative memories of his childhood:Me and my mother drivin’ to the grocery storeMe ridin’ shotgun with my window rolled downShe smoked cigarettes and gets what she gets by

Hustlin’ harder, rollers and a nightgown

Me and my father driving to the football game

Me ridin’ shotgun, my window rolled down

His tender realizations about his father are particularly moving. “I was much happier when he was around,” he confesses, before hastily breathing in and whispering, “when he was around.” There is closure to his sparse statements; it’s a palpable cathartic release full of simple truths that he is finally confronting after all these years. André is a changed man, and his mournings represent a newfound perspective now that his parents are gone. All that is left are cherished photographs and memories, vividly brought to life through song. Kevin Kendrick, who most notably handled the spirited piano melody on “Hey Ya” and the more mellow “She’s Alive,” on which André sings about a strong-willed single mother, is the lone soul to accompany the ATLien on “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents).” His talents provide the backdrop for André’s intonations on the ache of loss and the unstated toll that it has taken on him.

The sudden musical about-face is welcome if somewhat unexpected, especially given André’s proclivity for the disappearing act. Ever since the release of double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, he has been in and out of the music scene, abruptly coming and going as he pleases. In 2014, he reconnected with Big Boi for an Outkast reunion, performing at a number of music festivals. And in 2016, he contributed the odd guest verse here and there, appearing on tracks with Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Kanye WestKid Cudi, and A Tribe Called Quest. While speaking to Complex in August, André seemingly put to rest the possibility that there would ever be another Outkast album. “At this stage I’m really more focused on what I am going to be doing 10 years from now. And I hope to God it won’t be rapping,” he quipped.

The Mother’s Day surprise felt like a momentous release, though not in the sense that it foretells the release of a larger solo project, the likes of which the hip hop community has been prophesying for years. “Look Ma No Hands” doesn’t have a commercial bone in its body, while “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)” is much too personal in its focus to be anything more than pure introspection. It’s a blessing when André graces the music world with his ingenuity, but this moment is confined to the intimate here and now. He’s releasing music on his own terms as he always has; nothing more, nothing less. The likelihood of him returning in the future is nigh impossible to calculate. With his timely reemergence comes the likelihood that he’ll be here today and gone tomorrow, like the fading characters he has so lovingly revitalized. Despite his towering presence in music, André has always remained strikingly human, an endearing quality that has not been overlooked. He’s a man of few words, and even fewer public actions. And that’s OK. Who knows: he might never release another song, or there might be an album lying in wait on our doorsteps next week. One thing is for certain: André 3000 is coming to terms with his bittersweet past as he so desires, candidly displaying the singular calm that has been a guiding force throughout his brilliant career.

Nicki Minaj Cancels Strip Club Party After Ticket Sales Reach Chaotic Level

Nicki Minaj reroutes the party line to Highline Ballroom in NYC.

Nicki Minaj was forced to cancel a planned event celebrating her appearance on Saturday Night Level due to overwhelming ticket sales. All is not completely lost however. Nicki plans to change the venue for a location that can house the high demand for tickets. Nicki had originally planned to host a post-SNL party as Scores NY, a reputed strip club in Manhattan’s core. According to the Blast, Scores NY began selling tickets but were force to halt once sales reached a number well beyond capacity. Unfortunately that calls for an end to the adult festivities, as initially planned.Confusion arose last week when Nicki Minaj publicly denied any part in the Scores NY event, making that denouncement under the impression the event had already been cancelled. The news is only disappointing to fans who were hoping to see a marriage of adult entertainment and hip hop live in the flesh. Nicki Minaj is reportedly ecstatic that more people can attend in what is believed to be a “safer and bigger” venue. Although promoters signed a deal that doesn’t entail Nicki performing, they remain hopeful the crowd will coerce her into at least a few songs while on stage.Doors open at 9 P.M. at Highline Ballroom in NYC. Tickets start at $50, all ticket holders from the initial campaign received an updated address at the original ticketed price with an option to receive a refund, should they reconsider attending.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Dropping “2 Projects Back To Back This Summer”

A Boogie is about to go crazy this Summer with new music.

It appears A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is about to go crazy this Summer with new music. Following up his string of new releases back in March, which included songs with Tory Lanez & YFN Lucci, the High Bridge sensation is about hit us a couple new projects this Summer.

On Wednesday night, the “Drowning” rapper hopped on his Instagram and informed fans that he’s dropping not one, but TWO new projects back to back this Summer, presumably similar to what Future did last year with Future Hndrxx.

“FLOW GOD.. 2 PROJECTS BACK TO BACK THIS SUMMER.. GET READY” he cation his IG post, which was of him previewing some new music while in the studio.

There’s no word yet as for what they’ll be called or what month we can expect to receive these two projects, but I’d expect it to be either June or July if he’s already announcing it now. It’ll follow up his wildly successful debut album The Bigger Artist, which dropped back in September and has already gone gold.

Check out the double project announcement (below) and sound off in the comments. Are you excited to hear two new projects from A Boogie or nah?

DJ Jazzy Jeff Thinks Music Is Best It’s Ever Been

DJ Jazzy Jeff Thinks Music Is Best It's Ever Been

DJ Jazzy Jeff recently spent the last 19 hours flying from Africa to Dubai and from Dubai to Switzerland, where he finally had a rare day off. The frequent world traveler is coming off a transformative performance in Kenya, which he describes as “one of the best experiences” he’s ever had.

“That was my first time ever in Africa, not just South Africa,” Jazzy Jeff tells HipHopDX. “The level of hospitality of the people in Kenya blew my mind. They are very, very, up on all kinds of music, and that may have been one of the best events that I’ve ever done.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BiXzyb1j6k1/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=8&wp=625&rd=hiphopdx.com#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A1694.4000000075903%7DWhen Jazzy Jeff plays a new country, he doesn’t simply cater to the locals’ tastes. Too often, he finds artists stray from their roots and try to match whatever the people in that particular country are accustomed to hearing.

“I don’t ever change the way that I play when I go to these locations,” he explains. “I think a lot of people find themselves going to Africa and the first thing that you say is, ‘I want to play some of your local music’ or ‘I want to play some of the hit records in Africa.’ They get that 365 days a year.

“The reason why you’re special is they want you to do you, so I think once I realized how up they were on music, it really opened me up. It was like, ‘Ok, I can really go there,’ and they sang along with everything from Michael Jackson to Lisa Stansfield to Mobb Deep. They were all the way down. It was amazing.”

The veteran turntablist — who rose to prominence during Hip Hop’s golden era alongside Will Smith as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince — just dropped his new album, M3, earlier this month. The project serves as the final installment of the Magnificent album series, which started with 2002’s The Magnificent and 2007’s The Return Of The Magnificent.

The arrival of M3 marks Jazzy Jeff’s first solo album in 11 years. He doesn’t think he would have had the confidence to put it out had it not been for his PLAYLIST retreats. Founded in 2016 by the Philadelphia native and his wife Lynette Townes, PLAYLIST acts as an incubator for independent artists, something inspired by the Red Bull 3style DJ event.

“My excitement about the independent side of how much we can get done on our own really started from some of the work I do with Red Bull 3style,” he explains. “My peers and I would have these amazing conversations. What I found is it would give us so much inspiration for the rest of the year. I talked to my wife and was like, ‘I really want to throw a DJ retreat where I would love to get some of the best DJs in the world together, and just make it about sharing music.’”

After the first PLAYLIST retreat, people were so moved by the experience, they were in tears, which Jazzy Jeff didn’t really anticipate.

“They were saying they’ve never been in a gathering with a group of creative people,” he says. “That was something that I didn’t understand. I expected us to get together; I didn’t expect it to become an emotional thing, yet there were people that were like, ‘Yo, I’ve never felt like I was doing this by myself.’

“That gave me the confidence to say, ‘You know what, I have a group of creatives that want to help me put together this record.’”

With M3 out in the world, Jazzy Jeff is amazed at how technology has made digesting music easier than ever. He especially appreciates the ability to connect to his fans in a way that was impossible when he was coming up.

“You have to dig too, but I discover so much good things from people’s recommendations,” he says. “If I trust their musical taste and they say, ‘Oh my god, you need to download this such and such album,’ I’m going to listen to it. I think that’s the beauty of where we are now. You can ask different people and get all the music you want. It’s really about sharing music and I think that’s really one of the things that got me excited about doing the record.

“As much as people complain about where we are with music, I think this is the best it’s ever been. It’s so cool to me that there’s someone making music in their garage tonight that will be on the internet tomorrow. Now, you have the access to communicate and touch your fans straight from your phone. This is some Jetsons shit for real. I’m like, ‘Yo, I was in Africa sending my album out to people.’ I’m tripping.”

In addition to his own music, Jazzy Jeff has collaborated with artists like The Roots, Eminem, Jill Scott and (of course) Smith. From 1990 to 1996, he also played the role of Jazz on the cultural phenomenon The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

Growing up in Philly, Smith and Jazzy Jeff always had a plan — Smith was going to act in movies and Jazzy Jeff was going to do the films’ scores. When the current Hollywood powerhouse was offered the role of The Fresh Prince on the show, naturally Smith brought Jazz along with him.

“It was the strangest thing for someone to give you lines, you say the lines and everybody laughs,” he recalls. “I came up in this world where I was in no way, shape or form an actor. I had no desire to act.

“But from a creative point of view, you always hope that you can do something that people will remember and stand the test of time. Everybody that makes a record always wants to make a record that 20 years from now, people will still love this record. To be able to have made a television show like that is the blessing beyond blessings.”

Adidas Under Investigation Following Accident At Kanye West's Office

CALABASAS, CA – An employee working on Yeezy shoes at Kanye West’s Calabasas office was badly injured when a 3D printer fell onto his foot during an accident in late March. According to TMZ, the injury from the massive 3D printer was so intense the employee had to be airlifted to the hospital.

As a result of the workplace accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) is now investigating West’s office to see if there are any violations. They specifically want to determine if any workplace violations contributed to the gruesome accident.

Adidas is facing fines of up to $129,000 per violation, and the man injured has reportedly enlisted the help of a lawyer. Although details on his condition have been kept under wraps, TMZ reports his foot may have been amputated as a result of the accident.

Chance The Rapper Says Beychella Was “Better Than Any Performance Michael Jackson Ever Did”

Chance The Rapper Says Beychella Was “Better Than Any Performance Michael Jackson Ever Did"

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Chance The Rapper solidified his lifetime membership in the Beyhive during his commencement speech at Dillard University. While speaking to the college graduates on Saturday (May 12), Lil Chano declared that Beyoncé’s acclaimed set at Coachella 2018 had surpassed all of Michael Jackson’s legendary performances.

“Beyoncé’s performance was better than any performance Michael Jackson ever did,” he said, recognizing some people wouldn’t like his opinion. “That woman, better than Mike. Black woman, better than Mike. I said it! I understand that’s upsetting to a few people here, probably … We have to erase the fear and stigma behind eclipsing our heroes.”

Before he made the bold statement, Chance recounted his adoration for Jackson. He then spoke glowingly about the Coachella performance.

“Generations of little black kids have been mesmerized before the TV screen or YouTube, watching as Mike seemed to do the impossible. One of those little black kids would grow up to be someone especially amazing,” he said. “She would do more than just copy Mike. She would surpass him. And now, I’m going to tell you about the greatest performance put on by the greatest performer of all time, and it wasn’t Mike.”

He continued, “Beyoncé … in real time, in one fell swoop, she eclipsed every Grammy performance, every Super Bowl halftime show, every talent show. Literally, any performance from the beginning of time, in contrast, became outdated and obsolete. This was Coachella.”

Chance’s take was part of a larger point about how the next generation should always strive to be better than the one that came before it.

“I realized that all of us have a responsibility to be greater than the people who came before us,” he said. “We have a responsibility to be not as good as them or live up to their example, but to actually surpass them, even when it seems scary. We have to overcome that fear and be greater than our role models. We have to erase the fear and stigma behind eclipsing our heroes.”

To this point, Beyoncé’s show was an eye-opening moment for Chance.

“With that performance, I realized that greatness can never be stagnant,” he noted. “To quote Bruce Lee, we must be like water, adapting to our container, always changing with the times. And that means being better than the people that came before us. Some people might find this type of talk disrespectful, but it’s exactly the opposite.”

He added, “The highest form of respect that we can pay to the people who came before us, the people who sacrificed for us and gave us everything, is to be better than them … Our parents, grandparents, ancestors sacrificed, not so that we can keep doing the same thing that they were doing but so that we can be better. To simply copy them would be almost an insult to their sacrifice.”

André 3000 Drops 2 New Songs In Honor Of Mother’s Day

André 3000 blessed all of us on Mother’s Day with two new songs in honor of his late parents.

The Outkast MC’s latest tracks, released on his recently-created Soundcloud account, are his first solo cuts in quite some time since his output has mostly been restricted to guest appearances.

The first song, titled “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents),” is dedicated to his mother, Sharon Benjamin-Hodo, who passed away in 2013. The record is much more piano-based than Hip Hop based, featuring no rapping. The official cover art for the track is a photo of a young André and his mom.

The second track, “Look Ma No Hands,” is a 17-minute record with no vocals. 3 Stacks handles the bass and clarinet while James Blake plays the piano.

André also reinforced the Mother’s Day message on his new verified Instagram account.

“Happy Mother’s Day. I’m sure all the cards, dinners, flowers and last minute gifts are appreciated but I’ve learned the best gift a parent could get is to simply know their child is ok,” he wrote as the caption for the hand-written lyrics to “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents).”

T.I. Passed On Brian Grazer’s “8 Mile”-Style Trap Biopic — So Now It’s Starring Gucci Mane

T.I. Passed On Brian Grazer's "8 Mile"-Style Trap Biopic — So Now It's Starring Gucci Mane

BEVERLY HILS, CA – 8 Mile producer Brian Grazer will be doing a biopic surrounding Gucci Mane’s life and his role as the trap music “progenitor.” Grazer originally had T.I. in mind to do a biopic first, however, in an interview with TMZ, Tip says he turned down the opportunity.

“Brian asked me to do mine a while ago, and I told him I wasn’t interested just because I don’t know how that story ends,” the Grand Hustle boss told TMZ.

“I guess he found somebody that wanted to do theirs, that’s fine.”

The debate of who the true architect of trap music normally relegates between T.I. and Gucci Mane. It’s a quiet disagreement between the two and many rap fans who have their opinions on who the real trap God is.

In April, T.I. shot down Guwop’s claim that he is the inventor of the sub-genre by posting to Instagram a Wikipedia screenshot displaying the date his first album, Trap Muzik (August 13, 2003), was released as opposed to when Gucci dropped his first mixtape which was two years later with Trap House.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhW_vZGBcP9/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=8&wp=625&rd=hiphopdx.com#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A910.4999999981374%7D“It’s idiocy to go out and continue to toss around opinions in the face of facts,” he says of Grazer’s forthcoming biopic with Gucci.

During an interview with HipHopDX, T.I. doubled down on his trap music creator claims and they were eventually co-signed by CeeLo Green during a recent episode of HipHopDX’s Soulful Sundays.

Chris Brown Reportedly Sued By Woman Allegedly Raped At His Home

Chris Brown Reportedly Sued By Woman Allegedly Raped At His Home

A woman who was allegedly raped at Chris Brown’s home in February 2017 is reportedly taking legal action against the R&B star.

According to TMZ, Brown is being sued by a woman going by Jane Doe who says not only was she raped by one of Brown’s friends but also forced to perform oral sex on a menstruating woman.

The legal docs claim Brown supplied cocaine, ecstasy and weed, and that the woman’s phone was confiscated upon arrival at his recording studio. She alleges Brown’s friend forced women to have sexual contact with Brown and Lowell Grissom (also known as rapper Young Lo).

The unidentified woman hired hotshot attorney Gloria Allred to handle the case.

During a recent press conference, Allred explained, “When she arrived at the studio, her phone was taken away from her. She was told that Brown did not want anyone to have their phones in the studio. Our client alleges in the lawsuit that she was forced to go to Brown’s home because she perceived that she would only be able to retrieve her phone there.

“Brown handed each female guest, including our Plaintiff, a clear pill filled with white powder and instructed them to take it to have a ‘good time.’” But the woman says she declined.

Allred went on to explain her client felt “intimidated” by the multiple guns in the house, aggressive behavior by some of Brown’s guests and the general atmosphere in Brown’s home.

“While she was at Brown’s house, she was the victim of horrific sexual assault,” Allred continued. “It’s one of the most horrific sexual assault cases that I have ever seen and our client Jane Doe has been severely traumatized.”

The legal docs also state Grissom held the woman against a washing machine and raped her for a second time. Once she was able to leave the home, she says she went to a rape treatment center and reported it to the authorities.

Neither Brown or Grissom have addressed the allegations publicly.

Houston Rapper Big T’s Death Leads To Confusion

Houston Rapper Big T's Death Leads To Confusion

Following reports of Houston rapper Big T’s death, multiple outlets used a photo of battle rapper Big T, causing confusion among Hip Hop fans. Billboard, Page Six and The Daily Mailall used a photo of the wrong Big T.

The problem — of course — is battle rapper Big T is alive and well.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BihQwv_geEu/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=8&wp=500&rd=hiphopdx.com#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A2075.700000001234%7DBillboard has since updated its story with the correct photo, but a Twitter post still incorrectly displays the Chicago battle rapper.

The outlet issued a correction on the original article that reads: “Billboard issues an apology to our readers and rapper Big T from Chicago for inadvertently using his photo in the originally reported story.”

Despite the sad circumstances, battle rapper Big T had a little fun at Billboard’s expense.

“Yooo @mediatakeout I understand y’all make mistakes but @billboard is ridiculous,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday (May 9). “how do you stop this @mediatakeout_.”

Cardi B Confirms She Is Having A Girl

After weeks of dropping clues, Cardi B confirmed she is pregnant with a girl during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday (May 9).

“I’m having a girl,” she stated plainly after Stern asked if she knows her baby’s sex.

Prior to this, the rap princess had casually mentioned that she’s having a girl on several occasions. Just before attending the Met Gala with designer Jeremy Scott on Monday (May 7), Cardi was quoted calling her baby bump a “she” in a chat with the New York Times.

“She do weigh three and a half pounds,” Cardi said. “That’s pretty good for seven months, right?”

That same night, she also used female pronouns while speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, saying, “Oh, she wants to fight me!” in reference to her baby’s kicking.

In April, the “Bodak Yellow” artist’s sister Hennessy wrote, “I’m going to be able to hold baby you and give her all the kisses and hugs!” in a since-deleted Instagram caption, using “her” when mentioning the unborn baby Bardi.

Cardi first announced her pregnancy with fiancé Offset during an April 7 appearance on Saturday Night Live. It will be the 25-year-old’s first child. Offset has three children from previous relationships.

John Legend Can Be Your Google Assistant

John Legend Can Be Your Google Assistant

Google Home and Android users will soon have the option to hear the voice of John Legend anytime they want. At the I/O developers conference on Tuesday (May 8), Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed six new voices — including Legend’s dulcet tones — are being added as choices for the company’s virtual assistant.

Legend and the other new voices for Google Assistant were created by WaveNet, a technology that “allows Google to simulate an entire vocabulary with much less human recording,” according to CNET. A video of the acclaimed singer recording his lines aired at the I/O developers conference.

No official release date for the voices has been revealed, but the new options for Google Assistant are reportedly due out later this year. Legend’s involvement comes on the heels of him starring in a commercial for the Google Assistant with his wife Chrissy Teigen earlier this year.

Kanye West’s “Scoopity Poop” Bars Almost Landed On Billboard Hot 100

Kanye West's "Scoopity Poop" Bars Almost Landed On Billboard Hot 100

Kanye West tricked everyone into thinking he was delivering some heat earlier last month when he promised “bars” during an interview with Hot 97’s Ebro Darden. Instead, he dropped the masterful troll track “Lift Yourself,” which found ‘Ye scatting about “scoopity poop.”

But because he’s ‘Ye, “Lift Yourself” was listened to so many times, it almost debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was released shortly before he dropped “Ye Vs. The People” featuring T.I., which landed at #85 on the Hot 100.

Chart Data reports “Lift Yourself” hit #5 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, meaning West was just five spots away from landing it on the Hot 100.

Feedback on the song was hilariously positive. T-Pain tweeted that when West rapped the non-sensical lyrics he “felt that,” while Your Old Droog said “Scoopity Poop” would be better than “your next album.”

Joey Bada$$ was fooled into thinking he was about to hear something transformative from Yeezy.

The Pro-Era rapper’s reaction to hearing the song is captured on video and he’s seen falling over on a couch, saying, “What?! Are you serious?”

Over the past few weeks, West has caused of flurry of controversy with his return to Twitter. Throughout the onslaught of pro-Trump and existential tweets, he revealed the release datesfor several projects he’s working on, including his follow-up to 2016’s The Life Of Pablo, Pusha T’s King Pusha, his collaboration with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghost, and Nas’ new album.

But with his reported return to Wyoming to finish the albums, it’s unclear if they’ll be delivered when expected.

For now, at least we have “Scoopity Poop.”

R. Kelly Spotted In Public Shopping With Alleged “Sex Slave” Joycelyn Savage

It looks like Joycelyn Savage was telling the truth when she said she’s not being held against her will.

Last year, we reported a story on Joycelyn Savage and her family, who came forward saying that their daughter had been “brainwashed” and part of an alleged sex cult by R. Kelly. However, Joycelyn herself denied the claims, but her family continues to believe she’s being held without her will by the R&B singer. Well now TMZ has obtained video footage of R. Kelly and Joycelyn hanging out together in public, and she definitely doesn’t look to be being held against her will.

The two were spotted shopping together at a mall in Chicago on April 28. They were seen walking around a Nordstrom store, checking out products and acting more like boyfriend & girlfriend than anything. Joycelyn was awfully affectionate, walking out the store and rubbing Kelly’s neck.

Unless this was the best acting & troll job done by Joycelyn, it’s pretty clear she’s telling the truth when she says she isn’t being held against her will like her family suggests.

This clip surfaces just a week after a couple more woman came forward saying R. Kelly sexually abused them as well.

Check out the clip of R. Kelly & Joycelyn hanging out together at the mall (below) and let us know what you think.

Met Gala 2018: Migos, Rihanna, SZA, Cardi B & More Impress On Red Carpet

Hip-hop was dressed to impress at the 2018 Met Gala Monday night.

If you haven’t caught on social media by now, the annual & prestigious Met Gala event was held Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Donned as the Oscars of the fashion industry, Met Gala is one of fashion’s biggest nights, with world’s hottest celebrities & artists all coming together to show out and stunt in some over-the-top designer outfits. Presented by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the 2018 gala is co-hosted by Rihanna, Amal Clooney (wife of George Clooney) and iconic designer Donatella Versace. The theme for this year’s event is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” which saw many A-list celebrities dressing in some religious-themed outfits.

As you would expect, hip-hop came out strong and represented themselves well Monday night. The likes of Rihanna, MigosChildish GambinoSZA, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, ASAP Ferg and more all came out looking extra dapper. We went ahead and rounded up some of the best photos from the red carpet in the gallery (above). Check them out and let us know who looked the best in the comments (below).

In addition to the fashion, Nicki Minaj used the red carpet to spill the news on her newly-announced album Queen, saying it will be dropping June 15th (see details here).

Gucci Mane’s 1017 Eskimo Records: A Complete Guide

A closer look at each member of Gucci Mane’s handpicked Trap-Rap super team.

When Gucci Mane was released from prison back in September 2016, we all had an idea of what was to come: an onslaught of new music. And while Guwop proved us right with five solo projects and several collaborations, we were ultimately short changing the East Atlanta Santa.Guwop is in the midst of a full fledged transition, and a graceful one at that. In fact, music is but one element of his evolving image. Nowadays, Gucci has diversified his revenue stream, culminating in moves like the release of his book The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, which came out in conjunction with his dismissal from probation. While his acumen speaks for itself, Gucci Mane’s most impressive post-incarceration move may very well be the establishment of his record label 107 Eskimo Records. The label roster has already been making waves off the strength of its current front men, the kingpin Hoodrich Pablo Juan and the dark and mysterious Lil Wop. On top of that, the label has added the talents of Z Money, as well as youthful trap duo Lil Quilll & Young Mal.With the label’s inaugural compilation project 1017 Eskimo Presents: Eskimo Boys Vol. 1 on the way, it’s even more apparent that 1017 is about to make waves. In anticipation of the sauce we’re expecting the 1017 Eskimo Boys to bring, we’ve compiled an essential guide to the entire roster, from their top songs to their origins in the game. Familiarize yourself, as you should.

Hoodrich Pablo Juan

With his nonchalant flow and prolific discography, Hoodrich Pablo Juan is arguably the superstar of 1017 Eskimo Records. Hoodrich lived up to his name, garnering a reputation by selling drugs to rappers, including Migos, Peeway Longway and Young Thug. In fact, Hoodrich Pablo Juan often accredits his appearance on Peewee Longway‘s “African Diamonds” as his first major breakthrough as an artist.

It wasn’t until his 2015 mixtape Designer Drugz that Hoodrich truly declared his stake in the race to become Atlanta’s hottest rapper.  Now with the release ofDesigner Drugz 3 and his most recent effort, The Matrix, it appears that Hoodrich Pablo Juan is ready to truly break into mainstream rap.

Lil Wop

The mysterious Lil Wop was born in Chicago and relocated to Atlanta shortly after his little brother moved there. He is known to be close with several rappers including Famous Dex (who may or may not be his cousin) and Kodie Shane. Apparently, Lil Wop and Trippie Redd initially linked up after one of their fans tagged them in their videos, suggesting they should make music together. From there, the two linked up, and Trippie and Wop were roommates for a time, presumably while they recorded their collaborative mixtape Angels & Demons.

Lil Wop’s first big track was a song called “Broadway,” initiating the world to his raspy and guttural sound. From there he continued to blend trap with horrocore, accumulating a number of cult hit like the recent “Pint Of Blood” or the Cuban Doll assisted “Bombay.”

Yung Mal & Lil Quill

The young rockstars of the sqaud. Lil Quill, 19, and Yung Mal, 22, met in 2008 after Mal relocated from New Orleans to East Atlanta. Mal initially found success with his solo record “Str8 Out Da Pot” in 2016 and shortly after, he and Lil Quill joined forces and began making music together. In 2017, the duo found their first big hit with “Publicity Stunt.”

By the end of the year, Quill & Mal had gained widespread respect and notoriety for their aggressive and authentic sound, not to mention the strength of their KIDS OF THE 6 mixtape, which ultimately landed them on Gucci Mane‘s radar. Now, with Guwop and the resources of 1017 Eskimo Records behind them, we can only imagine the vast potential of their reach.

Z Money

The hustler of the group, flat out. Not only does the Westside Chicago native secure the bag from his music, but his diversified sources of income include the restaurant he owns back in Chicago, six 18-wheeler trucks, and a car wash he expects to be up-and-running by the end of 2018. As for the music, Z initially received a vote of confidence in 2014 from none other than Chance The Rapper, after Chancelor used Z Money’s song “Want My Money” for his Acid Rap mixtape trailer.

Z Money doubled down on the co-sign with his Rich B4 Rap & Heroin Muzikmixtapes, but things went south after a probation violation landed him a stint in county for nearly a year. Upon his release in 2015, Z Money moved to Atlanta and dedicated himself to his craft. Now, with his latest mixtape Heroin Bag propelling him, it appears that Z Money has a second chance at being the next major artist to come out of Chicago.

Surprise! Wale drops off a new 4-track project called “Self Promotion.”

Well look what we have here. Just like he did back in March with It’s ComplicatedEP, Wale decides to come through tonight and surprise fans with the release of a new EP called Self Promotion. The project was first announced just hours ago by commentator Corey Graves on WWE’s RAW is War. “Wale just dropped an album called Self Promotion or he’s about to later tonight, and its all about doing whats best for you.” the WWE announcer said live on air Monday night, before Wale shared the clip himself & confirmed the project on his IG, saying the “cats out the bag.” Now with midnight upon us, so is Wale’s Self Promotion.

The 4-track project features a lone appearance from DMV’s DJ Money, who appears on the outro track “Cassius (Excellency).” Meanwhile it’s currently being led by the previously heard single “Negotiations,” & also contains a “Body Body Body” freestyle.

“Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth I get it, but I feel sarcasm is our greatest weapon. We get whoever to do whatever just by saying whatever. Boys & girls ask yourself this question… What travels or captivates quicker … a compliment or an insult?” Wale asks in the album trailer.

Available now on iTunes, fans can stream the 4-song project in its entirety via Apple Music. Hit play and let us know what record you’re feeling the most?

STAR Departs Complex’s “Everyday Struggle”

https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.46739/title.star-departs-complexs-everyday-struggle

STAR Departs Complex's "Everyday Struggle"

NEW YORK, NY – Troi “STAR” Torain is no longer co-hosting Complex’s Everyday Struggle series. STAR explained his departure on his YouTube channel show The Star Chamber.

“I requested a release from my agreement a while ago. I requested a release. I didn’t quit. I’m not a quitter, but I requested a release and today (May 3), I finally got it,” he says with a smile. “So, let me say thank you to Complex. Thank you so much. I’m just busy, I got moves to make, I appreciate everybody that I work with over there. The wonderful, wonderful staff, the production, the PAs, everyone getting up bright and early in the morning. Thank you.”

The former Power 105 radio host wouldn’t go into detail about why he chose to leave Everyday Struggle, but he says there’s no malice and he’s “choosing his words carefully.” He also candidly admits he didn’t think he would get the release after a long back and forth between Complex Media and his lawyers.

Although the latest episode of Everyday Struggle was published on March 29, host Nadeska Alexis assured viewers the show will be back in an April tweet.

STAR was recruited for the series after Joe Budden made his exit late last year. Budden leaving the show signaled the possible end of Everyday Struggle’s existence for many viewers. The addition of STAR resulted in more drama for the series due to sexual comments made about Nadeska Alexis before he was asked to join the cast.

Check out STAR talking about his departure at the 2:05 mark below.

Meek Mill Embraces Role As Face Of Criminal Justice Reform In “Dateline” Exclusive

Meek Mill Embraces Role As Face Of Criminal Justice Reform In "Dateline" Exclusive

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Meek Mill may be out on bail but as he explained to NBC’s Lester Holt, his journey to freedom is far from over.

On Sunday night’s (May 6) Dreams & Nightmares: The Meek Mill Story episode of Dateline, the Philadelphia native sat down for one of his first post-prison interviews and discussed his recent incarceration, the struggle to get out on bail and his new position as the face of criminal justice reform.

Meek, who’s been under court supervision for nearly 10 years, said he still doesn’t feel free. In the episode, he says, “I always feel like my freedom could be taken.”

Didier Morais, Meek’s publicist and Director at Berk Communications, has been along for the ride since day one and was instrumental in getting Meek on the show.

“We’ve been working with Dateline’s team since January so it was amazing to finally see the story come to fruition,” Morais tells HipHopDX. “I know Meek is eager to use his platform to reform the criminal justice system and we’re thrilled that the Dateline segment resonated with so many people from so many different backgrounds.”

Since Meek was arrested last November, his case has made countless national headlines during the five months he was locked up at Chester State Prison for probation violations. Judge Genece Brinkley originally sentenced him to two to four years in prison, a sentence many deemed harsh.

During the Dateline exclusive, Meek explained, “We’ve always been divided in America … a lot of black people are in prison. A lot of Spanish men are in prison. A lot of these laws and policies are made to keep most of these minorities trapped forever. I had eight years of probation that turned into 16 years of probation.

“Something is not working. I’m still doing time for that case.”

Meek is expected back in court next month.

Fact Or Fiction: The Weeknd's "We're Alone Together" EP Rumor Spreads

The Weeknd has fans on edge as rumors swirl about a potential new EP. Chatter on social media and forums has sparked speculation the XO singer will release a follow-up to My Dear Melancholy titled We’re Alone Together on Friday (May 11).

Last month, The Weeknd changed his Instagram bio to “we’re alone together,” which prompted theories about it being the name of his next EP. The rumors increased when supposed cover art for We’re Alone Together surfaced online with the same image used in “The Hills” artist’s Instagram avatar.

A Weeknd superfan also noticed his manager Tony Sal liked a LA Leakers post, which shared the artwork and said the EP is reportedly dropping on Friday.

The subreddit dedicated to the platinum-selling singer has plenty of doubters who believe the cover art is fake. Complex also reports a source close to the situation confirmed there won’t be an EP released this week.

The Weeknd’s previous record, My Dear Melancholy, was released in March. The EP didn’t have a major promotional push, dropping just days after it was first teased, but still debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.

50 Cent Roasts A$AP Rocky On Instagram — And Gets Toasted Right Back

THE GRAM – When it comes to Instagram, 50 Cent’s troll game is A-1.

But those who frequent Hip Hop social media know A$AP Rocky (and crew) are always down to play the dozens at a moment’s notice.

So when 50 spotted a photo of Flacco looking very alt-GQ with custom Gucci apparel (and the bag to match), the real-life Kanan decided to let the hashtag chopper fly.

“I said get the strap,” Fiddy quipped with his now infamous catchphrase adding, “not get the bag” smh HARLEM SHIT AGAIN. LOL”

“FIF DRESS LIKE HIM N EMINEM GOT THE SAME STYLIST,” Rocky text screamed before misspelling several fallen clothing brands.

Tech N9ne & Boulevard Brewing Introduce "Bou Lou" Craft Beer

KANSAS CITY, MO – Kansas City native Tech N9ne and his hometown draft company Boulevard Brewing have announced a collaboration on a new brew, which is inspired by his song “Caribou Lou.” The Bou Lou beer is scheduled to debut on June 15 at Boulevardia, an annual Kansas City street festival in the Stockyards District.

The drink is an unfiltered wheat beer with coconut and pineapple flavoring. If the beer sells well, Boulevard might consider a wider release, according to its president Jeff Krum

“This is an alliance that had to happen,” Krum said in a press release. “Working with Tech and the Strange Music team has been a real privilege. Their creativity, attention to detail and commitment to excellence made it clear to all of us why they’ve achieved such remarkable and sustained success.”

Strange Music CEO/president Travis O’Guin fully agrees.

“Being from Kansas City, the Boulevard Brewing name has always been held in high regard,” O’Guin added. “We both strive to create products that place us in the upper echelon of our respective industries, so to be able to collaborate with the Boulevard team on such a unique project is an honor.”

The two companies are also collaborating on Bou Lou’s packaging and promotion. The beer comes in a large black can decorated with the Strange Music logo.

Starting on June 18, Bou Lou will be available for purchase in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at select locations in Kansas City, Wichita, Lawrence, Springfield and Denver.

Gloria Carter Accepts GLAAD Award On Behalf Of JAY-Z

On 4:44, JAY-Z told the story of finding out about his mother’s struggle to hide her sexuality on his track “Smile.” While Hov has admitted on the Rap Radar podcast that his mother, Gloria Carter, wasn’t OK with the song at first, both of them realized the message was too important not to share with the rest of the world.

At the 29th GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards in Los Angeles on May 5, JAY was the recipient of a Special Recognition award for the song “Smile.” Ms. Carter accepted the award on Hov’s behalf and delivered a touching speech as well.

After ABC’s Good Morning America host Robin Roberts introduced her, Ms. Carter thanked several people and relived the moment she told her son about who she really is. She also explained why she wasn’t completely forthcoming with others and the moment it all changed — meeting her partner, Dania Diaz, who blew her an encouraging kiss mid-speech.

“Here I am. I’m loving. I’m respectful. I’m productive and I’m a human being who has a right to love who I love,” she said in closing. “So everybody — just smile, be free. Thank you and God bless.”

Nicki Minaj Reveals Release Date For "Queen" Album

NEW YORK, NY – As Nicki Minaj made her grand entrance at the Met Gala on Monday (May 7), she shared some news her fans have been waiting for.

During a red carpet interview at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Minaj casually announced the release date for her highly anticipated album — the aptly titled Queen — is June 15.

“It’s a big night for me because I just let the world know that my album is coming June 15 and it’s called Queen, and I can’t wait,” Minaj said. “I’m dressed like a queen every day, all day.”

Over the past few weeks, Minaj has dropped two singles and three videos for “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz,” two tracks that will likely appear on the upcoming album.

Despite Minaj blaming Cardi B for the “MotorSport” drama, Minaj and a very pregnant Cardi were spotted together at the event looking like old friends.

Migos, Donald Glover/Childish Gambino and Wiz Khalifa were among the many high profile artists also in attendance.

J. Cole Shuts Down “F*ck Lil Pump” Chant During Live Performance

J. Cole keeps it classy at his live shows.

One of the most talked about tracks off J. Cole‘s recent album, KOD, was “1985,” the closing track of the album which contains a warning for all the young rappers out there popping xans, flexing their ice, and not worrying about tomorrow. While Cole doesn’t mention anyone by name, fans have surmised that Lil Pump is the most likely target, as he’s gone after J. Cole in the past.As J. Cole was performing at JMBLYA festival last weekend, he began to perform “1985,” cutting off the backing vocal track so he could rap his verse acapella alongside the crowd. The crowd was charged up for the next verse, because in the brief period after Cole asked for the music to be cut, the crowd erupts in chants of “Fuck Lil Pump” and “Fuck 6ix9ine.”Cole doesn’t appreciate this show of hostility, and immediately tells the crowd, “Don’t do that.” After repeating it several times to no avail, he begins to rap his verse, drawing the crowds attention back to the music. One artist who surprisingly wasn’t mentioned in the chants was Smokepurpp, who has been on an anti-J. Cole crusade ever since KOD dropped. Besides outright stating that Lil Pump was a better artist than J. Cole, he’s also been a target of Cole fans’ ire, and has had “Fuck J. Cole” chants at his own shows, which he opted not to discourage.Props to J. Cole for taking the high road in this “beef.” Check out the video of Cole stopping the chants below.

Marlon Wayans Says He’s “Proud” Of Donald Glover For His “This Is America” Video

“The guy can do virtually everything.”

Childish Gambino‘s latest music video “This Is America” has everyone saluting how amazing Donald Glover is, once again cementing the fact that he’s one of the best multi-talented artists doing their thing right now. We just posted about Adele who congratulated him on his great work and now Marlon Wayans is following up on the trend explaining how proud he is of the Atlanta creator.TMZ caught up with Marlon at the airport where he details how obvious his intentions of the video are: “the mistreatment of African American people and racism.””What’s beautiful about the video,” he says in the video below. ” [Is that] it’s art and everybody has their own interpretation of what that video is and that’s how you know it’s a good video – we can all interpret it as something else.” Marlon then jokes about Gambino’s dancing and how a stripper pole could have easily been added to the video. All jokes aside, the White Chicks actor says Childish is easily one of the most talented people in the game.”The guy can do virtually everything. I’m proud of him, proud of him as a brother and a peer – I think he’s dope.” Watch the full clip below.

Camp Lo Returns With "Candy Land Xpress" Mixtape

Bronx duo Camp Lo have steadily maintained their stake in the game for having some of the most dapper panache. From the velour-smooth raps and beats to their effortless fashion, Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede have set the bar high for MCs who claim to be leaders of the new cool. They’ve also released a new project each year since 2015 and they’re returning again in 2018 with Candy Land Xpress – The Mixtape.

After hitting Europe for The Get Down Brothers Tour, Sonny and Geechi felt the time was right to release a new 19-track project complete with skits and a remix from the Kottonmouth Kings. Toward the end of the tracklist, the songs seem to showcase the production more as Camp Lo genuinely sound like they’re freestyling and having more fun in the booth than anything. The skits might trigger something if you ever had any trouble with going out with your friends or getting into the club. There’s also one for fans of the 1979 film The Warriors.

From Migos To Kanye: Childish Gambino/Donald Glover Nails "SNL" Appearance

NEW YORK, NY – Donald Glover — also known as Childish Gambino — appeared on Saturday Night Live as both the musical guest and host on Saturday (May 5).

The multi-talented artist/actor isn’t the first person to pull double duty on the long running comedy sketch show but he’s one of only two who’s performed as his musical alter-ego (the other was country singer Garth Brooks in 1999).

Kicking things off, Glover, Kenan Thompson and Chris Redd spoof Migos. Following a video for “Therapy,” (which is meant to look like the real video for “MotorSport”), they’re ordered to go to therapy to talk out their issues.

Then, the Atlanta co-creator tackles the latest Kanye West controversies as a character in a spoof of the film A Quiet Place called The Kanye Place. During the skit, he and his friends are so obsessed with ‘Ye’s tweets and his “Scoopity Poop” bars that they can’t stay quiet, and one-by-one, they’re whisked away by a monster.

Elsewhere in the episode, Glover also made an ’80s-themed video under the moniker Raz P. Berry, while Gambino performed an Afrobeat song as Zoë Kravitz played dominos. He then unveiled the first live performance of his new track, “This Is America.”

Fans of Gambino (and Glover) were blown away by his performance, and quickly hit social media to sing his praises.

Check out the reactions to the Glover/Gambino episode below.

Childish Gambino Blows Everyone's Minds With "This Is America" Video

While Donald Glover’s Saturday Night Live episode was airing on Saturday (May 5), his musical alter-ego, Childish Gambino, released a powerful new video titled “This Is America.”

Directed by frequent Atlanta director Hiro Murai, the visual tackles gun violence in America and shows a shirtless Gambino nonchalantly blowing a person’s head off during the first few seconds of the video.

One of the most jarring moments comes when a choir is seen joyfully singing, oblivious to what is about to happen to them. Gambino marches in, still dancing along to the music, grabs a machine gun and sprays them down with bullets. Meanwhile, the other dancers in the video continue going about their business with smiles on their faces like nothing happened.

Towards the end of the video, SZA makes a cameo appearance as Gambino starts sprinting from an angry mob that’s chasing him.

Twitter exploded with positive reactions to the visual, many saying Glover is what Kanye West wishes he could be.

Dr. Dre Loses Name Fight With Dr. Drai

Dr. Dre Loses Name Fight With Dr. Drai

Former N.W.A rapper-turned-music-mogul Dr. Dre has been involved in a legal battle for the rights to his name for years. But he wasn’t embroiled in a battle with Doctor Dre — the former co-host of Yo! MTV Raps.

Rather, he was fighting a trademark filed by a Pennsylvania-based OB/GYN named Doctor Drai.

And it’s a battle he just lost.

TMZ is reporting Doctor Drai has been using the name for years, based on his real name, which is Draion M. Burch. Drai is also a touring media personality who has written books (including 20 Things You May Not Know About The Penis), but when he applied for a trademark for the name in 2015, the original (at least, the West Coast original) Dr. Dre stepped in.

Dre the rapper claims that Drai the gynecologist has a name that sounds “too similar” to his professional name. Dre the rapper, essentially, was claiming trademark dilution, which gives the owner of a “famous trademark” grounds to argue that others can’t use the trademark in such a way that it “dilutes” its uniqueness.

The trademark office decided that while Dr. Dre and Doctor Drai certainly sound similar, there wasn’t enough evidence to suggest that there would be “confusion” between the names.

Long story short: case dismissed.

R. Kelly’s Team Says Email Statement Defending Singer Was Unauthorized

R. Kelly's Team Says Email Statement Defending Singer Was Unauthorized

The management team for R. Kelly has reportedly shut down an email statement made on behalf of the veteran R&B singer on Friday (May 4).

According to Billboard, Kelly’s management has revealed the email wasn’t authorized and issued a statement about the mixup.

“The person who released the statement did so without authorization and without talking to the star, and she isn’t an employee of R. Kelly management,” the statement read. “The singer and his manager had no idea of who she was. We have learned she was employed by a professional services firm, and that she has been fired for putting out the unauthorized statement.”

The person Kelly’s team is referring to is Katie Thompson who said she was sending the email on behalf of R. Kelly Tours. In the statement, she took aim at the media for having “dissected and manipulated these false allegations.”

The person originally said to be Kelly in the statement also referred to himself as “a God-fearing man, a son, a brother, and most importantly a father” elsewhere in the letter.

The email came on the same day Buzzfeed released another scathing article involving the singer. According to the story, there’s now two new women who have come forward with sexual abuse allegations against Kelly.

Over the weekend, a taped phone call between Kelly and one of his accusers was obtained by TMZ.

The audio consists of the singer going back-and-forth with a 20-year-old woman who filed a criminal complaint against him for allegedly getting her high on drugs and liquor, and then giving her an STD when she was 19.

Although the audio does lack some context, Kelly appears to seek an apology from the woman on the phone. At one point he asks if she was “back” from “where you were in your head.”

Last month, Vox reported Kelly’s publicist, lawyer and assistant all severed ties with him following the barrage of sexual abuse allegations.

Common: “No Matter What, Kanye Is My Brother”

https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/common-no-matter-what-kanye-is-my-brother-news.49480.html

“We don’t have to go to war just because we don’t agree.”

Kanye’s recent run of controversial comments, which include praising Trumpaligning with right-wing commentator Candace Owens, and suggesting slavery was a “choice,” have been a huge topic of conversation over the last two weeks. Naturally, many artists have been asked for their take on Kanye’s self-described “free-thinking,” whether they have a personal relationship with the rapper or not. The latest entertainer to be stopped by TMZ for his thoughts is actually someone who’s had a long relationship with West, as well as a history of politics that contradict Ye’s recent remarks: Common. The fellow Chicago rapper was willing to share his opinion on the chaos around Kanye’s recent behavior, but ultimately he wants to divert attention to matters he deems more important.https://cdnapisec.kaltura.com/p/591531/sp/59153100/embedIframeJs/uiconf_id/6740162/partner_id/591531?iframeembed=true&playerId=kaltura-player-9999999999-57588517802834024&entry_id=0_w31zcr5k“It’s a lot going on in the world… like black women being dragged out a Waffle House. Black people being shot down in the streets. We got people in the government — the president and others — that are lying and just creating divisiveness,” he said. “So, I think us focusing on tweets and comments when we can really change conditions… I wanna put more energy towards changing the conditions of what’s going on.”At the end of the day, Common says his views are not going to change the familial type of relationship the two have built through their long history of collaboration. Kanye studied under Common’s main production collaborator No I.D. as a teenager in the early 90s, and went on to produce the majority of Common’s 2005 classic Be. Common released three albums on West’s GOOD Music label.”No matter what, Kanye is my brother,” he said. “So there’s no beginning to the end… I love him. And I don’t agree with everything he says and everything he’s thinking. But I don’t agree with a lot of things that people I love, but that don’t mean I love them any differently. That don’t mean I won’t say exactly what I need to say to them. That’s what America, and that’s what this world should be about: people being able to express themselves. We don’t have to always agree, but we don’t have to go to war just because we don’t agree.”Watch the clip above. Common released Black America Again, an album that addressed issues faced by black Americans including police brutality, mass incarceration, and institutionalized racism, in 2014. Listen to it here.

Nicki Minaj has returned with two new visuals for “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li.”

Directed by Giovanni Bianco and Ms. Minaj, “Barbie Tingz” takes a bare bones approach, and finds Minaj sporting a multitude of colorful costumes against a white backdrop.

The Steven Klein-directed “Chun-Li” video gets more involved in theatrics and features Minaj as a femme fatale on a mission.

After months of social media silence, Minaj returned with the “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz” singles on April 12.

The new “Chun-Li” video marks the second visual for the same track. Last month, the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap released a video shot in selfie mode for the song.

The Queens rap superstar hasn’t put out an official album since 2014’s The Pinkprint but during an interview with Beats 1 Radio, she said she started working on a follow-up last December. No official release date has been disclosed.

Yo-Yo Continues To Carry The Cross For Future Female Rappers

Yo-Yo Continues To Carry The Cross For Future Female Rappers

Things are happening for Yo-Yo again. Backstage at the Eric B. & Rakim show in Denver, Colorado, the Compton-raised rapper’s energy is through the roof. She’s been on the road with the legendary Hip Hop duo for the entire reunion run, and judging by the smile on her face, there’s no place she’d rather be.

But a lot of people need to study up on Ice Cube’s former protégé. The Hip Hop world was first introduced to the fiery MC on Cube’s 1990 classic AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted on the track “It’s A Man’s World.”

It wasn’t until Unsung released a documentary on Yo-Yo (real name Yolanda Whitaker) in 2015 that she felt people were finally beginning to understand her story. As the mastermind behind the IBWC —Intelligent Black Woman’s Coalition — she’s been advocating for women since the ’90s.

“A lot of people didn’t know the history of Yo-Yo” she tells HipHopDX. “They got a chance to really look inside of who I am as a person, outside of who I am as an artist. I think that helped me because I think they saw more of me as a human being. They didn’t even know I was an activist.”

As the first female gangsta rapper on the West Coast, Yo-Yo broke down barriers and showed other women it could be done, but there was one problem. Yo-Yo wasn’t even 18 yet.

Atlantic Records actually had to wait for her to graduate high school before she could sign a contract. At that age, she was naturally a bit naive to how the music industry works and Yo-Yo admits she wasn’t really being true to herself.

“At first, it was just like, ‘Wow. Mama, I made it,’” she recalls. “I’m not asking, ‘Can I buy a car?’ I’m buying a car. ‘I don’t have to put up with your stuff, I’m moving out.’ But after a while, I would say certain stuff in interviews and didn’t know what I was saying, you know? I was so fake. I was trying to be something that I wasn’t instead of just allowing it to take.

“People would say, ‘What are you doing with your money?’ I’m like, ‘I’m investing it.’ In my mind I’m like, ‘You’re a liar.’ They’d ask, ‘Investing it where? I’m like, ‘In stocks and bonds.’ Those reporters were probably looking like, ‘These young people are so foolish.’ It’s almost like going to jail and trying to act like you’re not scared [laughs].”

Over the next few several years, Yo-Yo released four solo albums, including her 1991 debut Make Way For The Motherlode and 1992’s Black Pearl. While on the road, she forged a close friendship (and eventually romantic relationship) with one of the dancers for Digital Underground — Tupac Shakur. Of course, ‘Pac ended up becoming one of Hip Hop’s most legendary luminaries.

As Yo-Yo’s success continued, she realized she was hiding behind a mask.

“Just the other day I was thinking to myself, ‘Wow. I remember being an artist who felt like I had this prestigious personality,’” Yo-Yo explains. “It was like this out-of-body experience where I couldn’t ride in certain cars. I didn’t want to be seen in certain restaurants. I felt like I wanted to be this superstar. I wanted to be seen in only places that famous people were seen in.”

But all that changed. After leaving Atlantic Records in 1998, her path eventually led her to radio. Through her own show on the L.A. station KDAY, she discovered her passion for mentoring and teaching.

In 2011, she established the first Yo-Yo School of Hip Hop in South Central L.A., which aims to empower young women through the culture. Since then, she’s learned fame and fortune was never what life was about.

“Thinking about the younger generation [of rappers], I think about how free I am,” she says. “How I walk through the airport, people give me love. It’s different. They hug me and they say, ‘Oh my God.’ They’re like, ‘Am I bothering you?’ I’m like, ‘No.’ I let the walls down.”

At 46 years old, Yo-Yo’s a lot wiser and has daughters of her own. But she sees there’s a lack of leadership and sisterhood, and she’s more adamant than ever that women stand up and use their voices.

“I did this interview the other day and a guy talked to me about the #MeToo movement,” she says. “I know the #MeToo movement is really big, but what I try to do is get women to not have the #MeToo even happen.

“I tell young women, ‘Listen. Being loud doesn’t always mean you’re the wild and loud girl.’ Sometimes, being loud and wild is just the fearless girl, and being shy doesn’t always mean that people perceive you to be this innocent, really cool chick. It really means that sometimes they look at you like you’re the girl they can take advantage of. You’re not gonna say anything, you’re the girl that could really keep a secret. They try to play off of that. I try to teach that to girls — to not be another #MeToo.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bgt5x9JFqUu/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=8&wp=625&rd=hiphopdx.com#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A3077.1999999997206%7DAs Yo-Yo is getting ready to pack up and leave Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium to head to her next stop on the tour, she ends the interview with an anecdote.

“Girl, I had the cookie,” she says with a laugh. “I’m painting my house. I’m outside. I got my brothers in there. My girlfriend comes by and she’s like, ‘Hey, what are you guys doing?’ She like, ‘Oh. My brother made these cookies. You want to try some?” I’m up on the ladder, I got the cookie in my mouth, I’m painting. I’m just eating away, and then I get off the ladder off the thing and I go into the house. I’m like, ‘Something’s not right.’

“I was on the floor. You know how you draw out a dead person? I had my face on the granite. I was laid out so hard and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ My daughter was like, ‘What’s wrong with my mommy?’ My brother said he was talking to me the whole time.’ He said, ‘You wasn’t saying nothing.’ He said the only thing I was saying was, Stop it.’”

Yo-Yo was so concerned about her condition, she started making frantic phone calls.

“I was so high I never wanted another one again,” she says. “I called my aunt. I was like, ‘What do I do?’ She’s like, ‘Oh. You have to drink some milk, you might have overdosed.’ I was like, ‘Overdosed!?’ [laughs].

“No more cookies for Yo-Yo.”

Busta Rhymes Locks Roc Marciano In His All-Time Top 5 Rappers List

https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.46722/title.busta-rhymes-locks-roc-marciano-in-his-all-time-top-5-rappers-list

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Busta Rhymes has a serious pick for who he considers is in his top five rappers dead or alive. And longtime fans will immediately recognize it to be a familiar one.

On Thursday (May 3), during Roc Marciano’s Manhattan show at Highline Ballroom, presented by Dallas Penn, The Dungeon Dragon was a special guest and gave an impassioned performance of his 1997 classic, “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”

Afterwards, he gave a speech on why Roc Marci is in his personal Top 5 list.

“When I say Roc Marci is my top 5 MC ever, there’s a whole lot of science behind that,” he began. “The God Roc Marciano is a godsend.”

The veteran rap star went on to reveal that he’s never actually seen Roc Marci perform live before, even though they have a long friendship that dates back almost 30 years.

Roc Marci was originally a member of Busta’s Flipmode Squad before leaving to join The U.N., which consisted of Dino Brave, Mike Raw, and Laku. Busta and Roc’s history before rap only further Busta’s appreciation of Roc’s progression as an MC and his technical prowess.

Later, Busta hinted that certain “great” rappers are too scared to jump on records with Roc Marci. Since he wouldn’t name any names, your guesses are as good as ours.

“Roc Marci exemplifies a timeless greatness, and there’s a lot of great niggas that’s afraid to rhyme with him,” he said. And then, repeating the phrase for good measure: “There’s a lot of great niggas that’s afraid to rhyme with him.”

Solomon Faye, DJ Muggs and Mayhem Lauren also served as openers.

Throughout his set, Roc balanced songs from Rosebudd’s Revenge, the new album, and some deep cuts for his diehard fans.

G-Eazy Reportedly Convicted Of Charges In Sweden But Faces No Jail Time

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – G-Eazy was reportedly released from a Swedish jail on Friday (May 4). As reported by The Blast, G-Eazy’s Swedish lawyer, Mikael Westerlund, said the Beautiful & Damned rapper was convicted on charges of assault, possession and use of narcotics.

The consequences of the conviction have not been disclosed but Westerlund did confirm G-Eazy was a “free man.”

The 28-year-old was arrested early Thursday morning (May 3) at a club in Stockholm, shortly after he’d finished performing a show. Due to his reportedly “belligerent” behavior, the club’s security guards asked him to calm down but G-Eazy started throwing punches.

Once police arrived on the scene, they found him in possession of 1.5 grams of cocaine and a rolled up $100 bill.

G-Eazy told Swedish police he purchased and used drugs, and admitted to punching a security guard in the face.

Westerlund says his client plans on leaving Sweden immediately.

The European run of the Beautiful & Damned Tour is expected to resume on May 6 in Copenhagen.

(The original version of this article was published on May 3, 2018 and can be found below.)

G-Eazy was reportedly arrested in Sweden early Thursday morning (May 3) for cocaine possession and assault. According to TMZ, the Bay Area native was involved in an alleged altercation at a club following his performance at Annexet in Stockholm.

The “Sober” rapper was reportedly acting belligerent. Consequently, he was approached by several security guards who asked him to settle down. Instead, the 28-year-old allegedly started throwing punches, and hit one member of the security team multiple times in the face.

G-Eazy is reportedly still in custody on charges of suspicion of assault, possession and use of narcotics.

The Stockholm show marked the first stop on the European leg of The Beautiful & Damned Tour. Halsey — G-Eazy’s superstar singer girlfriend — and rapper Sean Kingston were with him at the time of his arrest.

Ice Cube, Mike Epps, & John Witherspoon Spotted Filming New “Friday” Movie

Craig & Day-Day look to be back in action.

It’s been a long time coming, but it finally looks like Last Friday, the 4th installment in Ice Cube’s hilarious Friday movie series, is in production. On Wednesday, Mike Epps, who plays Cube’s cousin in the series, took to his Instagram to share a photo & clip of his time on set.

“Im sitting here with big bro. We working, we working ya dig?” Epps says before Cube comes in and confirms its “Craig & Day-Day,” aka their characters in the film. Epps captioned the clip with “We working” too, but that wasn’t the only thing to get fans hyped.

In the late hours of Wednesday night, Epps also shared a photo of him, Ice Cube, & John Witherspoon (Cube’s father in the film) on Instagram, and fans in his comments were going nuts over it. The trio are spotted in a kitchen setting with cameras behind them, pretty much confirming that filming is being done or at least maybe some sort of promo clip for it anyways.

There’s no word yet as or when the movie might hit theaters, probably next year sometime, but when it does it’s safe to say it’s going to be another cultural phenomenon, just like the first three installments.

Check out the clip & photo (below) and sound off in the comments. Who’s excited to finally see Last Friday?

Cardi B doesn’t seem to be the only person to think so. There’s been several people on social media who’ve pointed out that it’s very possible that Celina Powell faked the results. Aside from the fact that she has a notoriety of faking her pregnancy, one person saw some grammatical errors on the paternity results.

I just feel like we should remind people that she pulled the same photoshop bullshit on chief keif about this exact time last year…when she was ‘pregnant’ by him too.

Drake & Cardi B’s Music Can Help Bring Parents & Children Closer, Study Suggests

A new study says that Drake and Cardi B’s music can help bring parents closer with their children.

Music’s one of the most powerful art forms in the world. Many people bond with others over their favorite artist or new music and often times, parents help shape what kind of music their kids enjoy as they grow older. While often times, parents have a hard time understanding why kids listen to the music they listen to and will often shut it down. However, depending on the artist, it could be a way for parents to create a stronger bond with their kids, according to a new study.Cardi B, Drake and Ariana Grande‘s music could help create a stronger bond between parents and their teenage children, a new study from the University of Arizona says. The research suggests parents should try and give some of the top 40 artists a chance in order to bond with their teenage child. They say it’ll help the parent have a better understanding of what their child listen to today and because they have a better grasp on what their kid listens to today, they’ll also be able to introduce their children to other pop artists that have influenced the sounds of today.”Students who recalled musical [sharing] activities with their parents in adolescence had a stronger effect of feelings of coordination with parents and subsequently on the qualities of their relationships [with them],” Dr. Hardwood, who studies music communications at the University of Arizona, says. “Moments where adolescents and parents jointly connect with music are less common, so they may be more impactful.”Who knew that Cardi B and Drake bangers could form a stronger bond between parents and their children.

Wiz Khalifa & Swae Lee Have A “Certified Banger” On The Way

“Rolling Papers 2” drops July 13th.

It looks like Wiz Khalifa is ready to kick of the album campaign for his long awaited sequel to Rolling Papers. After he announced the release date a couple weeks ago (July 13th), the T.G.O.D. rapper decided to come through early Thursday morning and share what looks to be an album trailer or promo clip for it, previewing some new music in the process.

The trailer shows Wiz in the gym showing off his boxing skills & massive gains, reminding people that he ain’t to be messed with nowadays. He left the following caption to go along with his martial arts-themed clip, “Secret footage has been obtained of the chosen one training for the toughest fight of his life👀 His sharpness, accuracy, and awareness has heightened and will be on full display on July 13th for the legendary Rolling Papers 2.”

But shortly after this “trailer” was released, Swae Lee replied to the clip, complimenting Wiz on his gains & musical talent. “Bruh you will sleep a nigga then drop a fire ass song,” Swae Lee said, and Wiz replied with “Can’t wait to drop the one we got.”

With the cat now out the bag, the Rae Sremmurd rapper then revealed the track was “certified banger,” but that’s just part of his everyday vocabulary & lingo so we’ll have to wait to find out. Either way, it looks like Swae Lee will be featured on Rolling Papers 2, which is dropping July 13th.

Check out the new teaser clip (below) as well as Swae Lee x Wiz’s collab announcement. Who else do you hope Wiz has featured on #RP2?

Rick Ross Reportedly Suffered Seizures Before New York Show

Rick Ross Reportedly Suffered Seizures Before New York Show

NEW YORK, NY – Rick Ross reportedly had another health scare last week, a little over a month after he was released from the hospital for an undisclosed reason.

According to Page Six, Rozay was having difficulty breathing and suffering seizures before he took the stage at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York City on April 23.

“His team had to get a masseuse to massage him for an hour to relax his body,” a source told Page Six.

Ross has a history of seizures. In October 2011, he was hospitalized twice due to seizures and had to cancel a performance as a result.

The Maybach Music Group founder’s recent hospitalization was prompted by a 911 call in which the caller said Ross was breathing “hard” and shaking. According to the audio, Ross had thrown up blood at one point.

Ross’ stay in the hospital was mired by conflicting reports about his status. His four-day stint in the hospital was said to be for suspected pneumonia and respiratory issues, but a family member reportedly said it was heart-related. Another report painted a dire picture in which Ross was on “a form of life support,” which was refuted by his family and friends.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Backed by The Soul Rebels, founding Wu-Tang member GZA‘s “Tiny Desk Concert” was a slice of nostalgia for fans of the Clan’s most verbose MC.

Sticking to his classic platinum-selling sophomore LP, Liquid Swords, he performed “Living In The World Today,” “Duel Of The Iron Mic,” and the title-track.

After the funky intro to the final song of the set, “Liquid Swords,” GZA momentarily forgot his verse. ”See, sometimes you forget your own verse,” GZA said to the crowd, garnering laughter. As the song was coming to an end, he noted “this was a song recorded on Staten Island,” before beginning to tell the story of the song’s inception.

“I was with RZA and Masta Killa … we were drinking 40s, there was a little smoke in the air, and were playing chess — strategizing,” he said. RZA then proceeded to play him the instrumental, suggesting that he use a routine that he used to do back in the day.

GZA went on to explain that routine — which at this point was a decade old — was the chorus of the infamous title-track, before jumping back into the song to close out the performance.

GZALiquidSwords

During a recent interview with TimeOut Miami, RZA said that the album — and its follow up — were deserving of a Pulitzer in wake of Kendrikc Lamar’s historic honor.

“When I go back and see some of the lyrics that GZA wrote on Liquid Swords, and Beneath the Surface, some of the writing he did was well-deserving,” RZA was quoted saying. “Everything he did to me was at a genius level of writing.”

Kanye West Clarifies Slavery Stance & Pings J. Cole & Big Sean

Kanye West Clarifies Slavery Stance & Pings J. Cole & Big Sean

TWITTER – In the social media madness that ensued following Kanye West’s controversial interview with TMZ Live on Tuesday (May 1), ‘Ye again took to his favorite form of communication — Twitter — to defend his comment that 400 years of slavery was a “choice.”

“We need to have open discussions and ideas on unsettled pain,” he began. “to make myself clear. Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will.”

“My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved,” he continued. “Kanye vs. the media is modern day Willie [Lynch] theory.”

Kanye is referring to purported Virginia slave owner Willie Lynch. In 1712, Lynch gave a speech about the control of slaves. During the speech, Lynch tells other slave masters he’s discovered how to control black slaves by pitting them against one another.

Ye added, “they hung the most powerful in order to force fear into the others. they can no longer stop our voice. the Nat Turner movie never made it anywhere because it showed slaves revolting. I understand why my god brother Puff calls his network revolt.”

Yeezy then pushed his agenda of free thinking.

“the reason why I brought up the 400 years point is because we can’t be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years,” he wrote. “We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought. It was just an idea.”

He added, “once again I am being attacked for presenting new ideas.”

In two other tweets, West shared a screenshot of a phone call with J. Cole — who reminded people “These are our heroes” last week — and posted a text message exchange with GOOD Music rapper Big Sean.

Sean, who signed with ‘Ye in 2007, sent him some encouraging words after seeing West’s interview with Charlamagne Tha God, which also came out on Tuesday.

“You n Charlemagne floated, interview all GEMS!” Sean wrote. “I felt a shift after I watched it! Made me call my family cause you’re right, that is a currency that priceless. GOOD ENERGY, needed that. Only love!”

West responded, “I love you bro. Sorry for not checking in,” to which Sean said, “All good! Nothing but love. I realize it’s not time for anything but that.”

Yeezy captioned the Cole post with “we got love.”

But not all of ‘Ye’s peers were rejoicing. T.I., who recently teamed up with Kanye for “Ye Vs. The People,” was left confused after seeing ‘Ye’s comments on TMZ Live.

“Yoooo WTF bro!?!?!?!,” Tip wrote. “I’m scratching my head like a muuuufucka now cuzz!!!”

Revisit Tip’s interview with Hot 97 below, where he talks about his meeting with ‘Ye.

Anderson .Paak & Knxwledge Will Drop A New NxWorries Song This Friday

New music from NxWorries is on the way.

Anderson .Paak has come a long way since he first came to prominence following his show-stealing appearances on Dr. Dre‘s long-awaited Compton album. He released a critically acclaimed and Grammy nominated solo album, Malibu, and put out an album, Yes Lawd! as part of NxWorries, alongside producer Knxwledge, who has had a prolific career as well, signing to Stone’s Throw records and have released over 80 albums and EP’s on online since 2009.Both of those albums were released back in 2016, and since then aside from some memorable features, we’ve had little in the way of Anderson .Paak music, but that’s about to change come this Friday, May 4th.On the Instagram account for NxWorries, the group posted a snippet of an animated video, featuring illustrations of Paak and Knxwledge driving though waves of orange light. A snippet of a new song plays over the video as well, and it’s sounding like the familiar Paak that we all know and love. The post was captioned as such, “May 4th 👀🔥 #nxworries #andersonpaak #knxwledge #yeslawd @anderson._paak @knxwledge.” It doesn’t seem likely that the “#yeslawd” would be the name of the new song, as that was the name of their last album as well, it appears we’ll have to wait and see exactly what awaits in store for us when the surprise drops on Friday. Hopefully we can get the announcement of a new album, and not just a new single.Check out the animated teaser for Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge’s new song down below.

Nicki Minaj Looks Insanely Thick In “Chun-Li” Music Video Announcement

Nicki Minaj announces that the “Chun-Li” video is arriving on Friday.

Her absence was felt during her social media break but Nicki Minaj has finally returned and she’s done so with a vengeance. Nicki went from not posting anything for four months to sharing videos and photos on a daily basis. While the change is drastic, it could not be welcomed any further as her loyal fans missed her dearly. The Harajuku Barbie posted an image of herself looking amazing on her Instagram, announcing that the long-awaited “Chun-Li” video was finally on the way. After multiple teasers and trailers, the music video is officially set to be dropping this Friday. The photo Nicki chose is of herself, rocking one of her signature latex looks and looking as thick as she’s ever been. While the picture is not understated in the least bit, the caption is notably less attention-grabbing, casually announcing the video’s release date. The rapper wrote, “Heads hiiiigh. Kill’em wit da flow. #ChunLi VIDEO FRIDAY.”Minaj has been sharing fan videos for the last several days, including some recorded by Reginae Carter, Amber Rose, and Kourtney Kardashian. “Chun-Li” was one of two songs that the artist released earlier this month, marking her return to music and wowing her fans in the process. Let us know if you’ll be tuned in Friday for the release of the video. In the meantime, check out one of the teasers here.

While Wiz works on Rolling Papers 2, due out on July 13, he has been hard at work in the gym. The rapper has posted nearly every day on his Instagram story detailing his workout sessions at a martial arts training center. The type of training that Wiz is doing requires a lot of mental strength but he has noticed obvious improvements in his physique as well.Inspiring people to begin or continue to stay motivated on their fitness journeys, Wiz posted a photo of himself and his “summer body,” inviting his followers to join in. T.I., Meek Mill, Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg & More React To Kanye West's Slavery Statement

Following Kanye West’s latest batch of controversial remarks, the response from the general public has been unsurprisingly swift.

Members of the Hip Hop community have also been quick to voice their thoughts on ‘Ye’s statement that 400 years of slavery sounded like “a choice.”

Shortly after making the statement, Kanye hit Twitter in an attempt to clarify his words and lamented that he was being attacked for his ideas.

A new report from TMZ also cites an anonymous source close to Kanye suggesting his comments could be a result of him going off his medication. Kanye’s reportedly supposed to be taking three unspecified pills a day, but the source said he’s self-regulating his doses and only taking one or two pills a week.

T.I., who appears alongside Kanye on the recently released “Ye vs. The People,” was left wondering “WTF” after seeing a clip of the Chicago musician on TMZ on Tuesday (May 1).

“Yoooo WTF bro!?!?!?I’m scratching my head like a muuuufucka now cuzz!!!!,” T.I. wrote in an Instagram caption to a video clip of Kanye.

“That broke my heart,” will.i.am said. “‘Cause I thought about my grandma who was born in 1920. And her connection with her mom who raised her, who was born in the late 1800s. And my grandmother’s grandma who was a slave. And when you’re a slave you’re owned. You don’t choose if you’re owned.”

Snoop Dogg, who has previously called out Kanye over his behavior, briefly addressed the rapper’s latest remarks.

“That nigga crazy, huh? Opioids. Wow,” an animoji version of Snoop said via Instagram.
